Flat Battle is a battle mode exclusive to HeartGold and SoulSilver for wireless battles. It temporarily sets the player's Pokémon to Level 50 upon entering, similar to the cap at the Battle Tower - including when it is accompanied by the remainder of the Battle Frontier facilities. However, unlike the Standard Cup and other rule sets for wireless battles, the Pokémon can be of any level before entering.

Rule sets available

  • No Restrictions - Players can have up to six Pokémon on their teams. Their levels will be temporarily set to Lv. 50.
  • Standard Cup - Players have three Pokémon on their team, Lv. 50 and lower.
  • Light Cup - Players have three Pokémon on their team, Lv. 50 and lower, each weighing no more than 218 pounds (98.883 kilograms).
  • Double Cup - Players have four Pokémon on their team and otherwise follow the Standard Cup rules.
  • Double No Restrictions - Similar to the No Restrictions rule setting, though it is a double battle instead of a single battle.
  • GS Cup - Exclusive to Flat Battles. Use four Pokémon with up to two "Special Pokémon" on the team. Players can talk to the attendant at the desk to see which Pokémon are "Special Pokémon".
