Release information
This card was released as a promotional card with different artwork, also by Ken Sugimori. In Japan, it was available through the "Please Trade" Campaign that ran from February to July in 1998. This variant card was never released in English. Later Japanese versions were released as part of the "Pokémon Best Collection" CD. This card was also reprinted in the Base Set 2 reprint set, which was only released outside of Japan.
Trivia
- The Blastoise included in the "Pokémon Best Collection" CD has the Pikachu Records logo in place of an Expansion symbol.
- A few copies of the card lack the word "Stage" in the text in the upper right explaining how to play the card.
Origin
Rain Dance and Hydro Pump are both moves in the Pokémon games that Blastoise can learn, though Rain Dance did not become an actual attack until Generation II. This card's English Pokédex entry comes from Pokémon Red and Blue, though it is slightly reworded. The Japanese entry comes from Pokémon Red and Green.
