Section 1: Twinleaf Town to Sandgem Town
Twinleaf Town
The journey begins at your home in Twinleaf Town. You are watching the television when a news broadcast declares a team searching for a red Gyarados in a far-off lake (presumably the Lake of Rage in Johto) has not observed the Pokémon in question. You leave your house and are told that your rival wishes to see you. As you are about to enter, your rival comes into you. After speaking, he runs back into the house. Enter, and go upstairs. Your rival will be decdiding what to take. Speak to him, and he will rush down, waiting for you.
Lake Verity

When you arrive there, you see Professor Rowan (though this is unkown at the time) and either Lucas or Dawn, corresponding to the opposite gender of your character. Suddenly, the Professor's aide returns and remarks that Rowan would be very angry if he forgot it. He then asks if you two have used a Pokémon from the breifcase. After replying, he hurries off.
Return to Twinleaf Town
After battling, return to Twinleaf Town. Rest for the night, then visit you rival. The rival tells you to visit the Professor in Sandgem Town, before running off
Route 201
You go through Route 201 after your rival has reached Sandgem Town. I reccomend training your strater to a decent level of about 7-9 before going along to Sandgem Town. The two Pokémon available on Route 201 are Starly and Bidoof. As of then, you would be unable to capture Pokémon.
Sandgem Town
After reaching Sandgem Town, it is reccomended that you heal your Pokémon at the Pokémon Centre. Then, visit the largest building in town. As you are about to enter, your rival zooms out and says thatb the man isn't as intimidating as he first seemed, then departs for Jubilife City. Enter the lab, and Professor Rowan will give you a Pokédex and tell you to collect as many Pokémon as possible. Lucas/Dawn also says that he is on a Pokédex quest. Buy some Pokéballs, and then depart for Twinleaf Town.
Sandgem Town
After reaching Sandgem Town you should heal your Pokémon at the Pokémon Center which (horror of horrors), now has an orange roof instead of a red one. Then, visit the lab and speak to Professor Rowan. He will allow you to keep the Pokémon and will give you a Pokédex. Your rival will keep his Pokémon as well.
