Neo Starter Deck (TCG)

The Neo Starter Deck or Random Construction Starter Deck is an introductory deck from the Neo 1 Expansion of the Pokémon Trading Card Game. It was released in Japan only and contains a random assortment of cards from the set. The deck was constructed in the following manner: -

• 2 random holographic rare cards
• 2 random rare cards
• 8 random uncommon cards:
  • 2 sets 3 corresponding Evolution cards
  • 2 other random uncommon cards
• 18 random common cards:
  • 2 sets of 3 Basic Pokémon
  • 12 other random common cards
• 30 Basic Energy cards:
  • 5 Grass Energy
  • 5 Fire Energy
  • 5 Water Energy
  • 5 Lightning Energy
  • 5 Psychic Energy
  • 5 Fighting Energy

• This deck is unusual as the cards for each rarity are completely random, unlike English decks which all contain the same pre-selected cards. This trend has been used in Japan with every first Expansion in a new Generation, with the exception of Generation III where the idea was used in Half Decks in the sixth Expansion.
• This deck is similar to English releases such as the 2 Player Starter Set and 2 Player CD-Rom Starter Set, designed to introduce players to the Generation II cards found in Neo 1.
• This was the only full deck to be released in Japan accompanying the Neo series.
• Unlike the majority of cards found in decks in Japan, these cards have rarity symbols.
• Like other Theme Decks, the Neo Starter Deck also includes a rulebook, damage counters, a custom coin (Lugia) and card list.
