001Bulbasaur RG.png Due to special coding in place in the article, the artwork featured on this article will change every year on November 21 and October 15 in celebration of the releases of Gold and Silver in Japan, and Gold and Silver in the United States. This will only affect the artwork shown in the infobox. This changes every year, so when the time comes, here to return to the page and change the display.

Translation

It seems as if 宿主 yadonushi (parasitic host) is much more appropriate than 宿借り yadokari (hermit crab), given that Shellder is essentially a parasite on Yadon's head. And I quote the PokéDex:

When its head was bitten, toxins entered Slowpoke's head and unlocked an extraordinary power. (Silver) Every time it yawns, Shellder injects more poison into it. The poison makes it more intelligent. (Crystal) Slowking undertakes research every day in an effort to solve the mysteries of the world. However, this Pokémon apparently forgets everything it has learned if the Shellder on its head comes off. (Ru/Sa)

And for Slowbro:

The Shellder that latches onto the Slowbro's tail is said to feed on the host's leftover scraps (RB) Naturally dull to begin with, it lost its ability to feel pain due to Shellder's seeping poison. (Silver) An attached Shellder won't let go because of the tasty flavor that oozes out of its tail. (Crystal)

>Why can't it be both? "King of the parastic hermit crabs"?

- Zeta - unsigned comment from Zeta (talkcontribs)

I don't see why it is a hermit crab. Yes, Shellder acts as a shell, but Slowking doesn't live inside it, and Shellder is living as opposed to being empty. -Argy

>Yes, but Yadon still refers to "hermit crab", and Shellder isn't even involved at that stage. It's relative, "Yadoran" ALSO refers to hermit crab. It refers to hermit crab because everything else in it's evolutionary path refers to hermit crabs, even if Slowking diverges a little, it certainly doesn't diverge more than Yadon - who has no shell at all!

- Zeta - unsigned comment from Zeta (talkcontribs)

You have the relationship reversed - Shelder is the parasite (寄生), and Slowking is the host (宿主). Interestingly, one of the other meanings of 宿主 is landlord. However, I am inclined to think that yado is a reference to hermit crabs more than anything else. - unsigned comment from Zhen Lin (talkcontribs)

Well, let's just compromise, then. I'll add the part about hermit crabs, even though I still see absolutely no connection. Zeta, Yadon still has the potential to become a parasitic host, so that isn't out of the question. -Argy

Should we have a Slowking (Pokémon 4Ever) Article

Should we make an article about the Slowking in Pokémon 4Ever? --User:Theryguy512

I think no, because Slowking appeared in The Power of One, didn't it? --DarkfireTaimatsu 19:30, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Trivia

Is it worth noting that Shellder's shiny form is gold, something that shiny Slowbro's honor, Shiny Slowking's shellder isn't gold?--Nostalgia 03:21, 21 August 2008 (UTC) Well, if you think about it, the chances of a shiny Shellder latching onto a shiny Slopoke in anyway is really unlikely (1 in roughly 4000). I think that because the chances are so small, its 1. The reason why its not depicted that way, and 2. not worth mentioning.--Blaziken=Tahu 22:25, 3 October 2009 (UTC)

Edit Request

Appearances

I noticed that the Slowking from A Crowning Achievement was mentioned twice under appearances. Should one of them be deleted? --Emdude 02:39, 4 August 2011 (UTC)

Done. XVuvuzela2010X 12:23, 4 August 2011 (UTC)

Slowking's Gold and Sliver art...

...is missing. Either that or it's been linked to wrongly. Vuvuzela2010 11:58, 15 October 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, the same thing's happening to Murkrow, Misdreavus and Unown. - Blazios talk 12:05, 15 October 2011 (UTC)
And Ledyba, Igglybuff and Togepi, probaby more. I don't know who'se idea it was to have this switch in place when half the artworks are missing, but it was a bad one. Still, at least its easier to see which ones are missing now. Vuvuzela2010 12:27, 15 October 2011 (UTC)
Slowking, Murkrow, Togepi, Igglybuff, Misdreavus, Unown, Sneasel, Houndour, Houndoom, Donphan are all missing GS art (kogs checked this just before). This is of course not factoring in the artwork that was just uploaded. --SnorlaxMonster 12:34, 15 October 2011 (UTC)
They've been uploaded now. Vuvuzela2010 12:47, 15 October 2011 (UTC)
There's an issue with Ho-Oh. Both the GS artwork we have and the box art for Gold are different from this artwork. Vuvuzela2010 12:56, 15 October 2011 (UTC)
