Jiho Hwang 황지호 (English: Willy Hwang, Bulbapedia ID: Willyh106) is a middle school student living in Seoul, South Korea who loves Pokémon.
Hi, my name is Jiho Hwang and I'm an ordinary, Pokémon loving, 15 years old middle school student currently living in the bad education system of South Korea. Some of my hobbies are: playing Pokémon games, surfing on Bulbagarden, watching the AG Pokémon anime, listening to Pokémon music, reading AdvanceShipping fanfics, going on a bike ride, playing badminton, taking care of pet crayfish, and playing the Saxophone.
I got into Pokémon in 2007 when I got my first Nintendo-made device, which was a silver coloured Nintendo DS Lite. The game that I bought with that DS was the Diamond version and so far, I have played about 300 hours on it. Those days were the days when Pokémon and Nintendo were really famous in Korea and I enjoyed the game a lot even though I knew nothing about Pokémon.
Then, as the popularity died down, my love towards the franchise started to fade off. From then, I didn't have much interest in Pokémon until my friend asked me if I play Pokémon about a year ago. From that moment, the Pokémon spirit inside me began to fire up again and here I am! Thanks to my friend, I soon got to know about the internet forums, the anime, shipping, competitive battling, and last but not least, this awesome site called Bulbapedia.
In the anime department, I am now watching the AG anime from the beginning to the end and I have to say that I'm enjoying the experience a lot.
My favourite character in the anime is May, and like everyone else says, on the start of her journey, she actually didn't even like Pokémon and just decided to get one because she wanted to go on a journey, but ended up becoming a skilful Pokémon Coordinator.
To be honest, since she was the writers' first try on Pokémon Contests in the anime, I believe that her appeals and her battles were not too great, and she did get some bad wins to make her compete in the Grand Festival at the end of Hoenn. She didn't have lots of contests to compete in and she didn't suffer a lot, unlike Dawn, who actually got to compete more and suffer more, since it was the writers' second time and she only needed to win 5 ribbons instead of May's 10 in the same timespan, thus giving Dawn more chances to develop and mature, which makes me a bit disappointed. But, apart from all these negative opinions, I could see that May did improve over the series and did very well overall at the end of AG, considering that she was very immature and inexperienced at the beginning of the AG saga. Lastly, she really became a fantastic coordinator at the time of her return in the DP saga and she clearly showed me how good she got during her travels in Johto.
Apart from her coordinating skills, I also love her personality, such as the randomness she has when she did the "May's Expeditions" stuff and also her caring side, shown in the 9th movie. Also, apart from Misty and Dawn, she is very mild and doesn't stand out like a sore thumb personality wise, with Misty being the tomboy and Dawn being the girly one.
Also, I'm a supporter of AdvanceShipping because of M09, which re-aired in the cinemas in Korea a few months ago and also the great fan fictions I have read. Moreover, I believe that May's interactions with Ash is very realistic and cute, which is what I really like about AdvanceShipping.
In the games department, I'm currently playing Alpha Sapphire on the 3DS and Emerald on the Game Boy Advance SP. I'm really having fun with these two games and although I know that it will be very hard, my objective for both of these games is to conquer the battle facility in each game (AS-Battle Resort and E-Battle Frontier).
In the Bulbapedia department, I am currently working on adding the Korean titles and filling in missing information for the AG anime. I also edit random minor mistakes from time to time and work on adding some higher quality AG screenshots on the archives.
I hope I get to spend lots of time on this site and contribute a lot! Thanks!
P.S. If you have any Korean-related questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page.
