Priority of the move
I was wondering, is Detect really a +3 priority move? I used both Detect and Protect in a double battle. Hitmontop used Dected before Scizor used Protect, and as I'm positive Protect is +4, doesn't this mean Detect is +4 as well? This happened in a gen 5 game, so perhaps in previous generations the priority was different and it was changed later on? Mirkosp 17:02, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

Does Detect have the same interaction against damaging Z-Moves as Protect? Terezi (talk) 21:41, 20 December 2016 (UTC)

I'm curious; is there any difference between this move and Protect? They seem to both have the exact same effect, only Protect has double the PP. I can't see any reason why you wouldn't simply use Protect instead of this move. -- Jioruji Derako.> 02:59, 11 May 2007 (UTC)

If your Pokémon has both moves, you can alternate between Protect and Detect, essentially giving you 15 turns of invincibility (and that's before taking PP-raising items into account). Diachronos 16:37, 23 September 2008 (UTC)

Actually, his statement is correct, so long as you are playing a second or third gen game. PBR is fourth generation. Tybalt941 14:40, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
Actually, you'd only get 11 turns of certain invincibility, as you could only alternate as many times as Detect is available - that is, if D is Detect and P is Protect, you could go PDPDPDPDPDP... at that point, you'd run out of Detects. With full PP-raising of Detect, you'd be able to get 17 turns of it. Aielyn 14:22, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

Hmm...Hitmontop does has a faster speed than Scizor, so really it's doesn't show much proof for any priority change.TheCrobatKing.

Gen IV Table

I think the only moves not affected by Detect in Gen IV are Accupressure, Curse, Doom Desire, Feint, Future Sight, Imprison, Perish Song, Psych Up, Role Play, Transform and Shadow Force. Any additions? um0999

Test in my Plantinum version, mostly the same as Generation V. P.S: Although smogon's page did not metion Shadow Force can breakthrough Detect in Gen IV, but my Giratina can still do this. chungkingpun 15:38, 19 July 2013 (UTC)
