Science Club: Difference between revisions
I did Aqua first and Chris's deck (Fighting Club) became available to battle. I've confirmed Grass and Science both only have one opponent without doing that, so can check them after doing the GR-2 match again in the saved state. |
→In Pokémon Card GB2: After defeating GR-2 on the other save state, Joseph immediately agreed to battle when I went back in. So I've confirmed this mechanic for the Water Clulb being freed. |

The Science Club (Japanese: サイエンスクラブ Science Club) is a group of Trainers who use Grass-type Pokémon in the Pokémon Trading Card Game. It is led by Rick. It appears to be the male counterpart of the Grass Club, because the Science Club has only men and the Grass Club has only women; both clubs use Grass-type cards.
It is likely that the Science Club was created due to the fact that, at the time of the game's release, there were only seven TCG types— one short of the eight that were needed for a game that was like the core series Pokémon games, and, due to the additional double usage of the Fighting-type by both the Fighting Club and Rock Club, the hesitance to use Colorless as a club type.
It should also be noted that even though most of their cards are of the Grass type from the TCG, most of the Pokémon they use are of the Poison type in the main games.
In Pokémon Card GB
Rick may only be battled after Joseph has been beaten. Players who are able to beat Rick will receive the Science Medal and two booster packs.
In Pokémon Card GB2
At the beginning of the game, Rick is being held captive at the GR Grass Fort. The player can come here to challenge David to an optional battle in the side room.
If the player is male, GR-2 will appear in the main hall of the club for battle after acquiring the Be Gone! GR-2 Deck from Grass Club Master Nikki. After GR-2's defeat, both the Grass Club and the Science Club are freed simultaneously. David will remain the only person available to battle at this point if the GR opponents are taken in numerical order. If the Water Club has already been freed before liberating the Science Club, Joseph will also agree to battle you.
