Welcome to Bulbapedia, Lanthanum!
Bulbapedia bulb.png

By creating your account you are now able to edit pages, join discussions, and expand the community-driven Pokémon encyclopedia. Before you jump in, here are some ground rules:

  • Be nice to everyone. It's in the code of conduct.
  • Make good edits. Preview them before you save to make sure they're perfect the first time around.
  • Use wikicode and link templates when adding content to a page.
  • Use proper grammar and spelling, and read the manual of style.
  • You can't create a userpage until you've added to the encyclopedia. It's a privilege. See the userspace policy.
  • Use talk pages to resolve editing disputes. Don't "edit war," or constantly re-edit/undo the same thing on a page.
  • If you have a question about something, be proactive. Take a look at our FAQ. If you're still stuck, ask for help. The staff won't bite.
  • Sign all talk page posts with four tildes (~~~~). This will turn into your name and the time you wrote the comment.
  • For more handy links, see the welcome portal.
Thank you, and have a good time editing here!

The Preview Button

Instead of editing a page several times in a row, try using the preview button to make sure your edit looks the way you want it to. It's right next to the Save Changes button. Please try it out, so as not to clog up the Recent Changes. Thanks! --Lady Ariel 00:35, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

Please remember to make use of the preview button. Thanks! Tiddlywinks (talk) 13:55, 12 November 2015 (UTC)
I tend to save bulk changes in case of any crashes. Is that alright? Lanthanum (talk) 14:13, 12 November 2015 (UTC)

Stage Data

Got a source for all that? Presuming there was another data rip showing it that I haven't seen yet. I'm still adding the Pokémon to the other list, but we're missing the skills and rest periods, and some types (for dual types) may also be wrong and need updating. I'll finish that list and update the ones I've caught in my game this evening and we can go from there. Also guessing the missions are a different text file, but maybe we can interpolate what goes where from that later if it's found. CycloneGU (talk) 03:54, 5 December 2015 (UTC)

Serebii's list seems to be accurate so far, so I've placed them as placeholders. If there are any inaccuracies along the way as we confirm the info, simple edits could be done. Lanthanum (talk) 05:07, 5 December 2015 (UTC)

Stage Data

I have news for you. I just got someone to do a data rip and it turns out there are missions for ALT World stages. So what we're doing for 1-30 right now we have to do again for 1-30 in the Alt World.

I am not sure what the total Picrite rewards are, but seeing that data tells me that we have more than enough to earn back in the Alt World. I'm going to clear through Area 10 and then I might think about moving into there after reviewing the missions for Alt World to see if I can do all of them. The missions include things like "avoid setting any legendary or mythical Pokémon" and "avoid setting any Pokémon", though some have things like "avoid using any reveal skills". Since there is likely a time goal, and likely the fourth for doing all missions, it suggests there are 6 Picrites possible per stage again, meaning for an average of 7 Pokémon per area, over 10 areas (I know, one has three, one has five...work with me here), you're still looking at a possible 6*7*10=420 Picrites just for those 70 possible stages. 300 for Alt World now seems like a worthwhile investment.

Going to post this finding at GameFAQs right now, in fact. I've asked for editing power over the sheet so that I can decode everything, after which I can copy every single task in. Continue as you are for now, and I'll start from the back, eventually working over to Alt World. After you reach where I add to, all you have to do when I'm done is verify that I didn't code anything incorrectly when entering the goals and I'll do the same in both worlds as well.

Also sharing this news with Raltseye. CycloneGU (talk) 03:25, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

Sounds good; mind sending over the data rip so I can help input the missions? Lanthanum (talk) 07:55, 6 December 2015 (UTC)

Move pages convention

To answer your question, changing the template used (so in this case, going from Template:Moveentry/6 to Template:Moveentry/7) while not inserting any value for the Generation VII section will indicate that the move is unable to be learned by that method (in this case, leveling up) in that generation (VII). In other words, you did it correctly. --Carmen (Talk | contribs) 13:53, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

Generation VII learnsets

When updating to Generation VII learnsets, please remember that some moves have been modified, such as moves as common as Tackle. Please fix whatever you missed accordingly, and remember this for the future. Thanks! --Carmen (Talk | contribs) 15:33, 3 December 2016 (UTC)

Will take note, thanks! Lanthanum (talk) 15:35, 3 December 2016 (UTC)
Another note: if you are going to update Generation VII, you must also search for new species that can learn the moves. It's leaving work for us to go back and complete later. Also, I found that the data you added at Power Whip remained hidden despite your adding it because you forgot to change the 3 to a 4 in each row. These little things cause us to have to revisit the page later to further update data. While I am visiting every page to verify the information anyway, please try to get it right before I get there so all I have to do is check it against my list and delete it from that list, thus letting me move on faster. Thanks! CycloneGU (talk) 23:44, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
Actually, on further glance, it appears my attempt to edit at Power Whip and clicking to edit as someone else saved an edit might be the cause of that mixup. Beat me by about two minutes, he did. XD Even so, the point about adding new species stands, so please try to do that. =) CycloneGU (talk) 23:46, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
Was there an instance where what I updated wasn't complete? :O I use a verified pastebin as reference and as far as I know, I've been adding Gen VII mons that learn the moves too. Either way, I will try to be more careful next time. Lanthanum (talk) 14:39, 7 December 2016 (UTC)
I think I covered a couple of cases, but one from yesterday was missing Togedemaru at Present (see diff). No worries, it happens, I'm just reminding you to check, nothing more. =) This is one of the sources I check, but also I have a document from another staff member that created the lists for each Pokémon; I use that for my breed data. My learnset data sheet I created myself using something from OR/AS and modifying it to manually add the level-up move data and note anything that has changed. Creating new articles

When you create new articles by copypasting and editing an existing similar article, please remember to change or remove anything that is not true for the new article before pressing the save page button. The new Z-move articles you created had more than five things that were only true for Clangorous Soulblaze.--Den Zen 17:05, 12 October 2017 (UTC)

Apologies. It was my first time making new articles on Bulba. I'll keep that in mind next time around. Lanthanum (talk) 17:12, 12 October 2017 (UTC)

Linking

Please make sure that you use the proper link template when linking to certain articles. Any article for a Pokemon species should use {{p|this}} instead of [[this]]. The welcome template at the top of your talk page contains a handy link if you need more clarification. Thank you. Ataro (talk) 17:37, 21 January 2018 (UTC)

Understood. Thanks for the reminder. Lanthanum (talk) 17:39, 21 January 2018 (UTC)
You did it again. Please make sure to check these. Ataro (talk) 13:01, 23 January 2018 (UTC)
Apologies. I'll take a closer look at the templates. Lanthanum (talk) 14:21, 26 January 2018 (UTC)

Userspace pages

Please do not create userspace pages and then just paste their content into a mainspace page. Pages should not be duplicated like that, that's what the move function is for.

If you've also asked about a topic like this on a talk page, just because no one answers doesn't mean it's okay to just go ahead with whatever you were thinking. Especially in a case like this where there are already substantial pages. If you want an answer that you haven't gotten, ask someone directly.

Oftentimes in a case like this your edits would be reverted, but in this case since the item projects is ongoing, for the time being, I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt. Tiddlywinks (talk) 03:03, 16 February 2018 (UTC)

Oh ok, the move function wasn't working for me because the Fossil pages redirected to existing pages already. I'll also be contacting users directly in the future.

By the way, since I've gotten your attention, do you have any thoughts on the fossil pages splitting? I feel the previous ones were hard to sift through, and do benefit from the new item template. Lanthanum (talk) 03:14, 16 February 2018 (UTC)

Splitting pages

Splitting pages requires approval from an Editorial Board member, and also requires more than just copying and pasting data. The fossil pages will be split at some point along with other item pages that are suggested for a split.--ForceFire 04:59, 16 February 2018 (UTC)

Gotcha. Thanks for responding. Lanthanum (talk) 05:01, 16 February 2018 (UTC)

Some suggestions

  1. It doesn't matter for the readers, but for the editors of Bulbapedia, try to also consider edit histories when helping with the items; it is convenient to be able to trace where some information originally came from. Simply put: raw cut-and-paste is rarely wise, moving pages (mentioned above) is usually preferred where applicable. Also, if you change redirects to the full item pages, it may be wise to mention in the edit summary where that information came from (it may save us from issues like that, even if they may occur rarely).
  2. I believe on location pages etc., item names should be displayed the way they're displayed in that game (or the most recent one, if it's more than one game). Not sure if what I noticed was just a typo or oversight on your part, but obviously, it helps to watch others' edits, and try to figure out why they do what they do.
  3. Please categorize pages properly. In particular, there should be no mainspace articles without any category.
  4. Please pay more attention to the interwiki links at the bottom of pages. If you just leave them empty, they will create interwiki links regardless (in the sidebar, in desktop view), but to the wikis' main pages! Ideally, fill them with relevant pages, or else at least make sure they don't link somewhere they shouldn't. (Tip: If you found one relevant article in another wiki, you can usually copy the other links from that page.)
  5. I'd like to help with the fossil pages. You seem to have used Old Amber for the format, but I think that format is not ideal. (Also, I noticed some copypastas etc.) How about this: I edit the Helix Fossil, then you see what you think improves the page and synchronize the other fossils? (If you don't like a thing I do, just change it.) I'll try to see if they can be mainspaced, then.

Alright, I think that's it. Keep it up! Nescientist (talk) 10:23, 6 March 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback! I was wondering if I was doing anything wrong and not many people have told me so or otherwise. I'll definitely keep these in mind when editing other pages. I'm still relatively new to the Wikipedia system of things, and I apologize for my mistakes.
That being said, I'd appreciate the help with the fossil pages! I'm not familiar with the code at all (as you could tell from the Old Amber format haha), so it'd be swell if you could edit it the way you see fit. I don't mind handling the synchronization to the other fossil pages. Lanthanum (talk) 10:53, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
It's OK, we're all still learning.
I've edited Helix Fossil. Notice how I hid categories and interwikis while it's still in the userspace. :P
Also, note that {{mainspace|status=complete}} indicates a page is finished and ready to be moved to mainspace. Nescientist (talk) 17:16, 6 March 2018 (UTC)
Looks good. I've also changed the game locations up a bit so it's implied to be obtainable in other games, but through trade. If that change doesn't bother you I can start syncing up the other fossil pages to the Helix Fossil.
Btw, I've also taken the liberty to list down other things that might need updating/improving on my user page. I'd appreciate if you could take a look and see if my ideas are worth putting effort into haha. Lanthanum (talk) 00:03, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
I'm just another editor, so even if it did bother me a little (which it doesn't), feel free to ignore that. One thing I will note, though, is that some of the removed information may be helpful, in particular that there's a choice between the Helix and the Dome Fossil (such that, for example, you cannot obtain both in the same save file without trade). I think I probably would've have kept that. Anyway, could you edit the table at Old Amber the way you see fits?
In my opinion, everything that's on your to-do list seems reasonable. My latest information on Poké Balls is that their on hold, and/because they're hard to handle. Also, I don't see the evobox as a top priority; I haven't really made up my mind on the proposed change, to be honest, and/but I believe Mega Evolution is fundamentally different than Evolution. Nescientist (talk) 16:46, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
Oh Tiddlywinks made the edit removing that information (see latest edit on the Helix Fossil page), I just followed that direction on the Dome Fossil page. I'll fix up Old Amber to mirror the changes so far.
For the evobox, the justification is that Mega evos are different temporary forms, just like what Castform, Cherrim, and Necrozma have on theirs. If those mons have theirs listed in their evoboxes, it only seems necessary to include Mega evos too, since they work similarly. Lanthanum (talk) 17:14, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
I saw that, and I assumed you agreed when you spread that. I see that logic (in general), but as I said, I probably would've kept at least that choice part (or, restore rather than spread it), but I may not be the most knowledgable person on that. Same as for the evobox. ;) Nescientist (talk) 17:28, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
I assumed it was for the best since Tiddlywinks probably has better judgement than I do haha. If you deem it best to restore that, feel free to do so :D Lanthanum (talk) 17:45, 7 March 2018 (UTC)
