::Pokemon's origins are rarely "explicitly stated," so if that were our criteria we'd never get any origins at all. A better rule of thumb is "unless pop-culture as the origin is blindingly obvious." Sometimes it is, like with {{p|Wobbuffet}}, but in this case there's just not enough evidence. --[[User:AndyPKMN|AndyPKMN]] 00:14, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

First Pokémon

According to interviews with Ken Sugimori, Rhydon holds the distinction of being the first Pokémon ever created. This is supported by Red and Green listing it as first in its programming data. I know about its being first in the programming data, but mind giving us/linking to a source that states its being the first 'mon ever created? Frugali 12:39, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, i'd like to see that too. Because Mew was created in 1990, right? So was Rhydon before that? CherryParanoia 17:38, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Origin

How exactly is rhydon not heavily influenced Baragon? Methinks some certain bug catching game designer likes kaiju films. --Sandflapjack 19:45, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

It does bear a resemblance to Baragon... And so does Nidoking! --Bad Grim 21:24, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Pokemon's origins are rarely "explicitly stated," so if that were our criteria we'd never get any origins at all. A better rule of thumb is "unless pop-culture as the origin is blindingly obvious." Sometimes it is, like with Wobbuffet, but in this case there's just not enough evidence. --AndyPKMN 00:14, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
I agree with you, but Sketch says that unless it is explicitly stated it can not be added. That is why Ulgamoth is apparently not based on Mothra and that is just my, and many other user's, opinions. Meh. - 050294 23:51, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
