Wooloo is based on a Scottish Blackface Sheep
The Scottish Blackface is a breed of sheep that is very common on uk farms, with thick white wool and sometimes solid black face. They are also notable for having long, curled horns. Given that Galar is based in the uk, and wooloo has what looks like horns coming in, I'm confident that this specific breed was the inspiration. --Goldhusky (talk) 15:02, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
:That specific breed is not the only breed to have a black face. There are a lot of sheep with black faces. Wooloo has stubby horns, which could be any shape when grown in and we certainly shouldn't make assumptions. Finally, we shouldn't necessarily base our guesses on the region's origin; there are koalas in Alola, for example. While the region's origin is sometimes helpful, it should not be a large factor. However, I don't think "mou" was part of the pun here, and so should be removed.

Hello!
Wooloo's german name, Wolly, most probably derives from Dolly (sheep) and not from tiny.  So please, can someone of you correct the mistake? Thank you. --KT09 (talk) 17:33, 8 June 2019 (UTC)

Wooloo is a small quadrupedal Pokémon resembling a sheep. Most of its body is covered in thick, white wool, with only its brownish-black head and legs exposed, giving it a round shape. It has what looks like a braid of wool on either side of its head, ending in spiky tufts. It has two small, brown, conical horns extending from underneath the wool on top of its head. It has drooping ears with pink insides, a pink v-shaped nose, and yellow eyes with black insides and slanted white irises. Its stumpy legs end with lighter brown hooves. --LadyBrightcynder (talk) 19:08, 12 June 2019 (UTC)

No, more like the Japanese romanization of wool, but stylized. (Wulu (wool in romaji) -> Wooloo (to include wool)) It is basically when you translate something into another language on Google Translate and then translate the output into the original language again, but cuter.--Buddy002 (talk) 04:00, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
Actually, Wooloo's name might be wool + loom! Based on its name in different language, it would make sense. This could also be the case for the Japanese name as well.--Buddy002 (talk) 02:56, 7 June 2019 (UTC)

That specific breed is not the only breed to have a black face. Hi, newbie here but I wanted to put in my two cents. I thought that Wooloo might be based on a Valais Blacknose sheep[1]. Like Wooloo, they have black faces, black legs, short horns (at least on the ewes) and when their coats are fully grown, have a very round appearance. LadyBrightcynder (talk) 17:33, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
True, could be any number of sheep breeds, I'm probably biased because i love scottish blackies so much. Valais didn't come to mind for me because they weren't very a very well known breed until recently, but then again, we've seen Pyukumuku based on a sea slug that was unseen until it became popular in Japan. I suppose we won't know for certain 'till any evolution(s) come out. (C'mon curly horns!)--Goldhusky (talk) 18:34, 6 June 2019 (UTC)
The wool on the top of Wooloo's head really does make me think of it as a Valais Blacknose. I did a quick image search of 'black face sheep' and while it did show a variety of sheep, just about every other breed was bald with only Valais having a little fluffy top. --Manga-in-a-bottle (talk) 17:22, 2 February 2020 (UTC)

French name origin correction

The page currently mentions "From moumoute, mou, and mouton" However, I don't think "mou" was part of the pun here, and so should be removed. "mou" is "soft" for solid objects, as in modeling clay is soft, room-temperature butter is soft (malleable, tender), and is not used in french for the smooth sensation (which is described by "doux"). --Nitpicker red (talk) 17:02, 7 June 2019 (UTC)

German name origin

Hello! Wooloo's german name, Wolly, most probably derives from Dolly and not from tiny. So please, can someone of you correct the mistake? Thank you. --KT09 (talk) 17:33, 8 June 2019 (UTC)

I second this. Dolly immediately came to my mind when I heard the German name. Dolly was not just a very well-known sheep, but it also came from Scotland, making the name an even better match for the Galar region. Helsionium (talk) 12:23, 9 June 2019 (UTC)
