Western Cave (Japanese: 西洞窟 Western Cave) is a dungeon in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX that contains 99RB/20RTDX floors. It is home to Mewtwo.

The day after Ho-Oh is recruited from Mt. Faraway, Blastoise and Charizard will return from a failed expedition to this dungeon, having been defeated by an unseen Pokémon. Western Cave will then be unlocked for exploration.

Gameplay

Generation III

In the original games, HM Surf is required to enter this dungeon. Keys and stat-boosting health drinks can be found on the ground. The Beauty Scarf can be found on B59F, and requires a Key to obtain. If player already has one, it will be replaced by Link Cable. There is a chance of finding Kecleon Shops from B20F onwards. There are no hidden items.

The default weather effect for floors 5, 15, 18, 21, 27, 40, 45, 56, 59, 66, 84 and 95 is sunny; for floors 7, 20, 32, 46, 57, 68, 79 and 89, cloudy; and for floors 11, 24, 36 and 53, rain. On floors 50 to 60, sandstorms can happen due to Tyranitar's Sand Stream.

Additionally, all floors are shrouded in heavy darkness, limiting field of view in hallways to just one tile.
