Release information

This card was as a Wizards Black Star Promo released through the Pokémon League in August 2001. In Japan, it was an Unnumbered Promotional card included in Volume 1 of Pokémon Card Trainers magazine, released on May 28, 1999. This print is glossy and has a camera graphic in place of an expansion symbol.

A Spanish version was included in the Pikachu World Collection, available to purchase exclusively at Pokémon Park 2000 held at Sydney University, Sydney, Australia from September 12 to October 4, 2000. This print features a gold foil Pikachu tail stamp opposite the Black Star Promo symbol.

Trivia

  • This card is commonly known as Snap Pikachu in reference to Pokémon Snap, the source of the illustration.
  • The camera graphic was also used on ten other Japanese promotional cards featuring photos taken in Pokémon Snap for the CoroCoro Best Photo Contest and 64 Mario Stadium Best Photo Contest, both held in May 1999. These prints were all printed on normal card stock.
  • This is the only English Pokémon card to have "Photo." instead of "Illus." where the illustrator name is traditionally placed.

Origin

Scratch and Thunderbolt are both moves in the Pokémon games. Pikachu can learn Thunderbolt, but not Scratch. This card's Pokédex entry comes from Pokémon Yellow, though it is reworded.
