The reason for the ban, as mentioned on the English website, is that the wording on Scoop Up Net prevents its effect on {{TCG|Pokémon V}} and {{TCG|Pokémon-GX}}, but not other types of Pokémon with a Rule Box, such as {{TCG|Pokémon-EX}} or {{TCG|Pokémon ex}}. Of particular note is {{TCG ID|Paradox Rift|Iron Valiant ex|89}}; it has the "Tachyon Bits" {{TCG|Ability}}, which can be used by the player once per turn to place 2 damage counters on 1 of their opponent's Pokémon if the Iron Valiant ex moves from the Bench to the Active Spot. Scoop Up Net allows repeated use of Iron Valiant ex's Tachyon Bits Ability, giving the player the possibility to win on their first turn — before their opponent can take a turn — if they go first. The English website also states that Scoop Up Net may lead to similarly powerful combinations in the future, hence the ban.<ref name=Pokemoncom>(January 11, 2024). Trivia
On October 25, 2023, the official Japanese Pokémon TCG website announced that this card is to be banned from all sanctioned Pokémon TCG tournaments using the Expanded format, starting from October 27, 2023 onward.[1] On January 11, 2024, the official English Pokémon website announced the same Expanded format ban of Scoop Up Net to be in effect starting February 9, 2024.[2]
The reason for the ban, as mentioned on the English website, is that the wording on Scoop Up Net prevents its effect on Pokémon V and Pokémon-GX, but not other types of Pokémon with a Rule Box, such as Pokémon-EX or Pokémon ex. Of particular note is Iron Valiant ex; it has the "Tachyon Bits" Ability, which can be used by the player once per turn to place 2 damage counters on 1 of their opponent's Pokémon if the Iron Valiant ex moves from the Bench to the Active Spot. Scoop Up Net allows repeated use of Iron Valiant ex's Tachyon Bits Ability, giving the player the possibility to win on their first turn — before their opponent can take a turn — if they go first. The English website also states that Scoop Up Net may lead to similarly powerful combinations in the future, hence the ban.[2]
