Release information
This card was included in the Fossil expansion as both a Holofoil and Non-Holofoil card, first released in the Japanese Mystery of the Fossils expansion as only a Holofoil card. In Japan, this card was reprinted as a phone card with new artwork by Ken Sugimori in Fall 1997, as a lottery prize from the published "Pokémon Card Strategy For Adults" guidebook. An insert in the book prompted participants to send in a survey to Media Factory, who then randomly selected 100 participants to receive this card as a lottery prize, making it an exceptionally limited release. This card was subsequently reprinted with artwork by Yui Tanaka, one of five winning entries of the 64 Mario Stadium Best Photo Contest held in Spring 1999. This version is extremely rare, and 15 copies were officially printed and awarded to the contest winner. It was later reprinted again as a phone card available as a prize at the 1999 Tropical Mega Battle tournament. Those who were not in the main event could still battle each other, earning stamps for every battle they participated in. Those who completed their stamp booklet were awarded either an Articuno, Moltres or Zapdos phone card at random in a sealed envelope. This copy shares the same Sugimori art as the lottery release, this time with a gold Pocket Monsters Card Game border on the lower margin. The Fossil print was later reprinted in the Legendary Collection expansion.
In the Scarlet & Violet Series, this card was reprinted in Holofoil with its original Fossil artwork for the Blastoise & Suicune ex deck of the Pokémon Trading Card Game Classic. This reprint lacks a regulation mark and is thus not legal for tournament play.

Trivia
- The Japanese "Snap" print has a camera graphic where an expansion symbol would usually be.
- The phone card promos are slightly longer than a normal trading card, as the prints had to adopt the same dimensions as a regular Japanese phone card. Both Articuno prints utilize the same stock Sugimori artwork of Articuno that was later used on the Articuno Legendary Card from Pokémon Trading Card Game.
Origin
Freeze-Dry, formatted on this card as Freeze Dry, is a move later introduced in the Generation VI Pokémon games that Articuno can learn. Blizzard is a move in the Pokémon games that Articuno can learn. This card's English Pokédex entry comes from Pokémon Red and Blue, though it is slightly reworded. The Japanese entry comes from Pokémon Red and Green.
