I am not sure about subsequent games in the series, but I can confirm that a Pokemon's stats (aside from HP) cannot be raised above 255 in Red/Blue Rescue Team. Stat boosters can be consumed after that point but they will have no effect. I don't know how to implement this since I don't know if it's true for the rest of the games, but the section as-is is at least partially incorrect. "Any arbitrary amount"?

I am not sure about subsequent games in the series, but I can confirm that a Pokemon's stats (aside from HP) cannot be raised above 255 in Red/Blue Rescue Team. Stat boosters can be consumed after that point but they will have no effect. I don't know how to implement this since I don't know if it's true for the rest of the games, but the section as-is is at least partially incorrect. Frezgle (talk) 11:59, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

Doubles.

What about double resistance and weakness? If they stack, that means double resistance is more powerful than type-based immunity (49% vs 50%)... double weakness would be 196% or close to normal weakness. So how it works in these games? Marked +-+-+ (talk) 15:01, 8 April 2013 (UTC)

Move

This article should be moved to Gameplay of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. The current title is quite informal, not even using the full name of the series. I feel the proposed title is more encyclopedic and better reflects the scope of the article. Landfish7 20:35, 15 February 2024 (UTC)

Rewrite or Rename

The introductory summary, the introduction to the Pokémon section are both about how the series is different from the "core" series. Followed by a section about Effort Values, a mechanic not even present in the series. It should either be rewritten to actually be about the Mystery Dungeon mechanics, or be renamed to "Pokémon Mystery Dungeon's differences from the core series." If you click on this expecting to be educated about Mystery Dungeon mechanics, you're instead told about all of the differences from a separate series, that seemingly expects you to be educated on those topics beforehand. As of now, the title is misleading and doesn't serve its intended purpose. HaxAras (talk) 22:10, 15 June 2024 (UTC)

I think there's a little gravity the main series exerts on other pages which has to be there by design. See say Type (TCG) or Move (UNITE) for this in action. (Okay, part of the deal with those is that links often have to go from generalist pages to these specific pages, which isn't really true of this page considering the only page that isn't already Mystery Dungeon that uses this page is Ability, and even that is less a section and more a dolled up redirect).
I'm down with making the theoretical Spin off Manual of Style say "Differences from main series are isolated to a specific section in the majority of cases, only showing up in main text when the main series is exerting cross-canonical pressure. (for instance, with Weakness and Resistance in the TCG)" Salmancer (talk) 22:28, 15 June 2024 (UTC)
I think a reasonable possibility here is to move this to something like Differences between the core series and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series". Landfish7 19:18, 3 August 2024 (UTC)
There's also my original suggestion of reworking this into a page about the overall gameplay of the series, which might be a better option for expanding and improving our coverage.
