Plot
Liko, Roy and Dot have arrived at Glaseado Mountain, on their way to Glaseado gym for Liko's battle against Grusha, but it's such a long walk up the mountain that even Roy starts to feel a chill. Upon arriving at the gym the gym staff tells the group that Grusha isn't here at the moment. Seeking to find Grusha elsewhere, the group heads off to a nearby Ski resort, but due to the endless walking Dot becomes exhausted and collapses, thinking to herself that she is dead after seeing a flying Cetoddle. Soon after, Dot and her friends see a group of tourists riding a group of Cetoddle in a bob sledding event.
Liko, Roy, and Dot are on their way to the Glaseado Mountain Gym for Liko's second Terastal Training test. They're starting to feel cold, despite their winter clothes, with Dot going as far as dramatically laying down and being ready to accept her fate, until the three of them spot a couple of people sliding past them on Cetoddle. Arriving at the Gym, the group learns that Liko still has some time before her test is due to begin, so they decide to try out Cetoddle Bobsleigh as well in the meantime. Liko is a bit hesitant, but eventually agrees. Each of them rents a Cetoddle and starts sliding down a slope. Liko's path takes her through some woods, forcing Liko to use her vine to grab tree branches and control their movements to avoid hitting the trees. When Liko sees a cliff ahead of them, Floragato jumps onto some branches and knocks down a pile of snow that stops Cetoddle. As soon as Roy and Dot join her, however, it turns out that the "cliff" was just a shallow ditch, leaving Liko feeling embarrassed. Just then, the group is addressed by Grusha, the Glaseado Mountain Gym Leader and Liko's opponent in the upcoming test. He says that Liko must feel confident about herself if she can afford to have fun before the test, before leaving.

The trio and their Pokemon decide to ride the Cetoddle down the mountain to pass some time before Liko's gym battle. All three have fun bob sledding on their respective Cetoddle until Liko's Cetoddle starts going downhill too fast, Liko's Floragato then uses her vine to grab a nearby tree branch to slow them down, preventing them from falling off what appears to be a cliff, Dot and Roy soon arrived and checked on Liko informing her that she would have been fine since the "Cliff" was actually just a small ditch, to Liko's shock. Suddenly Grusha appears nearby with his Cetoddle to the group's surprise and coldly tells Liko that if she has time to play before their battle then she must be confident in winning, before promptly walking off.
The trio returns their rented Cetoddle to the sledding center near the Gym. Liko notices a magazine featuring Grusha on the cover, which the man in charge of the center mentions to be from just after Grusha won a major snowboarding competition. Grusha used to be a professional snowboarder, winning many awards, until one race had ended with him getting injured while avoiding a Cetoddle that had wandered into the racetrack. This injury had caused Grusha to retire from being a snowboarder, but that didn't stop him, as he instead decided to become a Pokémon Trainer, even caught the Cetoddle that had caused his accident, with him eventually rising to become Glaseado Mountain's Gym Leader. The man muses that Grusha could still return to being a snowboarder, but has not done so, because he cannot achieve the same results as he once used to, his harshness towards himself and others being his defining characteristic. Learning this, Liko is determined to receive an approval from Grusha, just as she receives a message that her test is ready to begin.

Liko and her friends then rested off at a nearby lodge, where they learn from the owner that Grusha used to be a talented Pro Snowboarder that won many tournaments, however one day he got his leg injured avoiding a Cetoddle downhill that caused him to retire from his snowboarding career and focus on being a gym leader instead. The owner further notes that weirdly Grusha should still be able to snowboard competitively after recovering from his injury, but the possible reason he retired is probably because he couldn't achieve the same tournament results as before due to his perfectionist personality.
At the Glaseado Gym battlefield, Liko prepares for her test, with Grusha's Cetoddle arriving ahead of the Gym Leader himself. Grusha takes his position at the opposite end of the battlefield while Liko chooses Floragato as her first Pokémon. Grusha, in turn, chooses Cetitan as his lead. Dot can right away see that Liko is at a disadvantage, not only due to Floragato's weakness to Ice, but also because of Cetitan's high defenses. Grusha initiates the match, and Liko seeks to utilize Floragato's high speed to her advantage with Quick Attack, but Cetitan's bulk easily withstands the attack, rendering the strategy moot. After dodging an Icicle Spear barrage, Floragato tries Magical Leaf, only for it to be countered by Cetitan's Ice Spinner, which strikes Floragato at an unexpectedly high speed for such a slow Pokémon. Deciding on a change in strategy to hopefully to turn the tide, Liko recalls Floragato and sends out Liko in her place. Cetitan uses Icicle Spear again, but Hattrem is able to stop and send the icicles back with Confusion. Being hit by its own attack hardly fazes Cetitan, though, and a collision between Brutal Swing and Liquidation ensues, followed by Cetitan dealing the finishing blow on Hattrem with Ice Spinner.

Liko and her friends soon return to the gym for her Implementation test battle. Surprisingly, Grusha's Cetoddle playfully walks and confronts Liko on the battlefield, before Grusha himself appears in time for the battle. The 2 on 2 battle soon begins. Liko sends out Floragato, while Grusha sends out Cetitan. Roy is shocked by the size of the Terra Whale Pokémon, scanning it with his Pokédex. Floragato moves nimbly around Cetitan before striking first with quick attack but it has little effect on her bulky opponent, Cetitan then uses Icicle spear with Floragato dodging its attacks, before unleashing an ineffective Magical Leaf that doesn't even faze the Terra whale Pokemon. Cetitan then quickly unleashes an Ice Spinner which is super effective and hits Floragato, surprising everyone with its attack speed. Liko then recalls Floragato and sends out Hattrem, Cetitan unleashes Icicle spear once again but Liko commands Hattrem to use confusion, sending the ice spears back at Cetitan to damage it. Cetitan soon recovers and uses Liquidation while Hattrem clashes against its attack with her Brutal Swing, but Grusha has Cetitan use Ice Spinner afterwards which overpowers and defeats Hattrem.
With no other choice, Liko is forced to send Floragato back out. Knowing that Cetitan's hide is too bulky, she knows she has to think of another way to attack. As such, after having Floragato outrun another Ice Spinner, Liko waits for the moment when Cetitan opens its mouth in preparation for using Icicle Spear, and has the category fire a Magical Leaf into the Terra Whale Pokémon's mouth. Unable to protect the inside of its mouth from the attack, Cetitan stumbles and is knocked off its feet. Grusha chooses to recall Cetitan and send out his second Pokémon, Altaria. Dot grows even more worried, knowing that Grass moves do barely anything against a type. Despite being at a disadvantage, Liko is feeling confident after having come this far and resolves to do her best. Floragato uses Quick Attack, but Altaria simply flies up before using Moonblast. While the initial Moonblast is blocked by Magical Leaf, a rapid-fire series of Moonblasts forces Floragato to take evasive action. Liko tries to think of a way to deal with a flying opponent, until she spot Altaria's feet. Recalling what Floragato did while they were bobsledding, Liko has Floragato charge in and wrap its vine around Altaria's feet, pulling it down and allowing Floragato to hit it with Acrobatics. Capitalizing on the moment, Liko takes out her Tera Orb and Terastallizes Floragato. In response, Grusha does the same and Terastallizes Altaria, turning it into an Ice type. Dot realizes that this type change has shifted the type matchups and made Altaria more vulnerable to Floragato's Grass moves. However, as Floragato unleashes a Terastallization-boosted Magical Leaf, Grusha declares that a change in type doesn't change the gap in skill level, and has Altaria counterattack with a boosted Ice Beam. After a brief clash, Grusha's words are proven true as Ice Beam overpowers Magical Leaf, Freeze Floragato and cancelling her Terastal state. The ice shatters and Floragato collapses, ending the battle in Liko's defeat.

After Hattrem's defeat Liko recalls her for Floragato. Floragato once again struggles against Cetitan's superior defenses and barely dodges an Ice Spinner but then Liko has a cunning plan, she has Floragato fire Magical Leaf into Cetitan's more vulnerable mouth the moment it tries to unleash Icicle Spear, choking and temporarily incapacitating it. Grusha is slightly impressed by this feat and recalls Cetitan in favor of his ace Altaria.
Later, the trio is standing outside the Glaseado Gym. Liko apologizes to Floragato's Poké Ball, but Roy and Dot try to cheer her up by reminding her that she can still pass the test despite losing, just like what happened with Dot. Grusha comes out of the Gym, ready to deliver the results of the test; he declares that Liko has failed her test. Roy and Dot are shocked, feeling that Liko did her best despite losing, but Grusha makes it clear that simply trying isn't good enough, and he won't be accepting a rematch, taking Liko's loss as an automatic sign of failure. Remembering the talk about Grusha's harshness towards himself and everyone else, Liko accepts his judgment with dignity, but is still left on the verge of tears as Grusha walks away.

Dot notes that Altaria has a big advantage over Grass-types like Floragato due to its dual Dragon/Flying typing, as the battle continued Altaria mostly had the advantage of flight, allowing it to easily dodge several of Floragato's attacks. Grusha then has Altaria unleash several Moonblast attacks which Floragato barely dodges, Liko almost panics but then remembers how Floragato grabbed onto a branch with her vine to slow down her Cetoddle ride. Liko quickly commands Floragato to dodge another Moonblast before wrapping her vine around Altaria's feet to hinder its movements, then jumping up and unleashing a powerful Acrobatics to kick and send Altaria crashing to the ground. Grusha is once again slightly impressed by Liko's tactics and both trainers promptly Terastallize their Pokemon, with Grusha's Altaria becoming an Ice Tera-type.

Dot notes how Altaria's type change into an Ice type is still a threat but it also makes Floragato's attacks deal normal damage which slightly evens the playing field, Grusha however comments how type changes are irrelevant in the face of true power. Both Floragato and Altaria use a Tera boosted Magical Leaf and Ice beam respectively, resulting in a big clash of power. Grusha coldly states he shall show Liko true despair, as Altaria's Ice Beam ultimately overpowers, freezes and defeats Floragato, causing Liko to lose the battle.

Liko apologizes to Floragato for not winning, but Dot and Roy note how Liko could still pass the test despite losing thanks to her great battling skills and tactics shown, as Dot passed Larry's test despite losing. Unfortunately for Liko, Grusha then appears and tells her that she failed the implementation test as she simply lost the battle, commenting how there are no second chances, doing your best is simply not enough and only results matter to him. Liko begrudgingly thanks Grusha for his time, who then leaves with his Cetoddle before Liko breaks down in despair over her loss, with Roy and Dot showing concern for her situation.
