The Violet Gym (Japanese: キキョウジム Kikyō Gym) is the official gym of Violet City. It is based on Template:Type2 Pokémon. The Gym Leader is Falkner. Trainers who defeat him receive the Zephyr Badge.
In the anime
The Violet Gym made its only anime appearance in Fighting Flyer with Fire. The battlefield is on the top of a tall building and is without a roof so that Flying Pokémon can make full use of their abilities.
After saving Pikachu from Team Rocket, Ash challenged Falkner to a battle. The battle got off to a bad start for the young trainer, but it became better when Ash defeated Falkner's Hoothoot and Dodrio. However, the gym leader's Pidgeot proved to be too tough for Pikachu. Using Charizard, Ash was able to defeat Pidgeot and earn his first Johto League badge, the Zephyr Badge.
In the games
Generation II
In Generation II, the Gym structure was very basic. It was very similar to Pewter Gym by layout, a pathway leading directly to the gym leader with two trainers obscuring the way. The path is held on some sort of raised platform, with a seemingly bottomless pit left and right of the path. The path creates an "S" shape as it winds around toward the gym leader. At the tips of the "S" there is a trainer that both are unavoidable. At the end stands Falkner, who will battles any challenger to the gym.
Generation IV
The Gym appears to be redesigned as to another perceptive. Trainer will start on plain ground other than a raised platform, however, when their progress further on there will be a raising platform that will lift Trainer's up to the grand ceiling, where a similar structure to the previous generation awaits. The path creates an "S" shape as it winds around toward the gym leader. At the tips of the "S" there is a trainer that both are unavoidable. The both trainers can, however, be avoided by walking on the glass tiles on both sides of the field. At the end stands Falkner, who will battle any challenger to the gym.

Trivia
- Falkner is the lowest level Gym Leader in the games, with Pokémon at levels 7 and 9. In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, however, his Pidgey is at level 9 and his Pidgeotto is at level 13. Despite this, he is still the lowest level Gym Leader in the games to date.
- Falkner is the only starting Gym Leader that does not specialize with Template:Type2, as of Generation IV.
