:::Yeah, but no one in this section is talking about the English name, Furfrou. As for the Japanese name (which this section is about) isn't it the most obvious answer usually the right one? How are we overlooking that "chien" is the French word for dog and it transliterated into katana as シアン? That seems like the most likely connection to me. :::Do we ''really'' need a whole gallery to show the different appearances in the anime? We already have a gallery for all the art forms already, a second gallery would look really cluttered and image heavy IMO. : I checked the PokeDex in Omega Ruby to find out if my Shiny Furfrou had the Kabuki cut registered, and it only showed up as its non-shiny color for the cut. ::::Allow me to weigh in on the question of Sun and Moon, if I may.
::::While it's true that Pokémon Sun and Moon don't have a National Pokédex with which to view this information, these games will still record every species and form of Pokémon that the player has seen or caught in them. I know this because then those species and forms will be registered in Pokémon Bank's National Pokédex (and in other places, like they'll show up on the GTS). Essentially, Sun and Moon still have a "National Pokédex" that registers Pokémon, but it's just invisible and virtually impalpable to the player.
::::In fact, I can personally verify that in Sun and Moon, the Shiny variants of every one of Furfrou's forms can be recorded. I used some QR Codes a while back to register them as "seen" in Moon, and when I updated it with Pokémon Bank, the Shiny variants were there, clear as day, in the Bank's Pokédex. So, I can't speak for anything before Generation VII, but Furfrou's forms ARE registered in Sun and Moon's invisible National Pokédex.

Name
So, トリミング trimming + トレビアン très bien? Gonna guess the eventual romanization will be "Trimien".--Kaoz (talk) 17:37, 11 September 2013 (UTC)
- The "mian" part of Torimian could be a corruption of メイン (mane/main). --The Truth aka Relicant 17:52, 11 September 2013 (UTC)
- Furfrou, obviously, is fur + frou-frou. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 16:18, 13 September 2013 (UTC)

Origin
Torimian may be based on both an Afghan Hound and a Poodle. --The Truth aka Relicant 10:38, 12 September 2013 (UTC)
- I think the poodle is the most likely as the Pokemon can be styled to look like a dog show poodle. CoolDudeAl (talk) 01:27, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
Right, but I think the point was make it look really different and unkempt, so you'd notice a difference when styling. Besides, no one styles an Afghan Hound like a poodle, which is the main gimmick to this Pokemon. CoolDudeAl (talk) 18:04, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
Nobody claims their pet rat is in the top percentage of rats either. Pokémon don't follow the rules of real world logic, so Furfrou could easily be based on a Poodle with traits of an Afghan Hound. Somebody add that to the Origin section because this conversation is over! --The Truth aka Relicant 18:48, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
Can the Origin section be updated with the contents of this amazing discussion so we can finally put the issue of what Furfrou is based on to rest please? --The Truth aka Relicant 10:35, 15 September 2013 (UTC)
- Be patient. This discussion wasn't exactly thorough or authoritative, so it's not like it's urgent. The staff will get to it when they get to it, and if they don't, well, the article unlocks itself in less than a month. You can do it yourself then. English Name Origin
From fur and frou-frou, meaning fancy or over-elaborate. http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/frou-frou#English Zeb (talk) 16:26, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
0192 already said this. --The Truth aka Relicant 16:28, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
Korean name for Furfrou
Its Korean name is 트리미앙 Teurimiang.
- Similar to Japanese name, but I'll sort it out in a sec. -- Nick15 (talk) 17:23, 16 September 2013 (UTC)
- I think the fact that it ends in ng as opposed to n lends credence to the "trimming" part of its Japanese name. Otherwise, it's basically a straight from the Japanese name. -- Nick15 (talk) 18:10, 16 September 2013 (UTC)
