Battle Points (Japanese: バトルポイント Battle Point), or more often known as BP (Japanese: BP BP), are a special sort of currency in the Pokémon world that can be won as a prize for defeating Trainers in specific battle facilities. They can be traded for items or paid to Move Tutors to teach moves.

When the Battle Tower was first introduced in Crystal, each time a group of seven Trainers was defeated, the attendants would award the player with five items at random, such as HP Up. The difficulty of winning in this first instance of the Battle Tower made acquiring large numbers of status-enhancing items expensive without cheating. In Emerald, with the first sighting of the Battle Frontier, the concept of Battle Points was introduced instead.
In Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, at Beach Spots only, they are referred to as Beach Points (Japanese: ビーチポイント Beach Point).

The first Battle Points that a player could earn in Emerald came from Scott, who would give them away on the player's first visit to the Battle Frontier depending on how many times he and the player interacted throughout the game. After this, more could be won by challenging, and defeating, the various facilities. These could, in turn, be exchanged for rare items for a secret base or even moves that could be tutored to a Pokémon.
Battle Points were introduced in Emerald, where they are earned at facilities in the Battle Frontier and can be exchanged for various prizes.

In Diamond and Pearl, the concept was retained, even though the battle arena was restored to merely a Battle Tower. This time, EV-enhancing items were included, as well as rare evolutionary items. The Battle Frontier in Platinum also features this.

Generation III
In Emerald, the player earns Battle Points by winning at the battle facilities in the Battle Frontier. Additionally, the first time the player visits the Battle Frontier, Scott gives them a number of BP that depends on the number of times they had previously interacted.

BP are awarded at the Battle Frontier in Johto as well. In addition, a limited amount of BP can be awarded once per day at the Trainer House. The Frontier Access features shops similar to the previous Battle Frontiers, where BP can be cashed in for items and moves.
Battle Points can be exchanged for items or decorations at the Battle Frontier (Generation III) in the Battle Frontier, or spent at Move Tutors who are located in the Battle Frontier.

The concept was retained in Black and White, in the Battle Subway. The purchasable items are very similar to those in Generation IV, however, nearly all purchasable items are only obtainable here, and Generation V items were added. Also, the price of TMs went down, despite the fact that they are only obtainable once and the price of TMs in Poké Marts went up. The concept returns against in Black 2 and White 2 and in addition to being used in the Battle Subway, it is also used in the Pokémon World Tournament. BP can be shared between both facilities. In Black and White 2, players also receive BP after winning in the Global Battle Union or Random Matchup.
Generation IV
In Diamond and Pearl, the player can earn Battle Points by winning at the Battle Tower. Battle Points can be exchanged for items at the Battle Park (Sinnoh) in Battle Park, the location of the Battle Tower. Items the player can purchase with BP include Power items and evolution items.

In Generation VI, Battle Points can be obtained in the Battle Maison, located in Kiloude City and in the Battle Institute, located in Lumiose City. Unlike in previous games, they are received after every victorious match. The amount received varies depending on the length of the current winning streak.
In Platinum, , the player can earn BP from all Battle Frontier facilities. In addition, in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, the player can earn a limited amount of BP once per day at the Trainer House. Battle Points can be exchanged for items at the Battle Frontier (Generation IV) or scratch cards at the Battle Frontier (Generation IV). In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, the player can also spend BP at Move Tutors located in Frontier Access.

The Poké Coupons of the console games Pokémon Colosseum, , and Pokémon Battle Revolution follow a similar concept. The prizes one can purchase in one game are usually similar to the prizes one can purchase with Battle Points in the game's respective handheld version.

In , the player can earn Battle Points at the Battle Subway. In Black 2 and White 2 only, the player can also earn BP at the Pokémon World Tournament, as well as from the Global Battle Union and Random Matchup.

This article is about the currency in the core series games. For the currency in Pokémon Masters EX, see Battle Point (Masters).

In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, at Beach Spots only, they are referred to as Beach Points (Japanese: ビーチポイント Beach Point).

Battle Points were introduced in Pokémon Emerald, where they are earned at facilities in the Battle Frontier and can be exchanged for various prizes.

In the games

Generation III

In Pokémon Emerald, the player earns Battle Points by winning at the battle facilities in the Battle Frontier. Additionally, the first time the player visits the Battle Frontier, Scott gives them a number of BP that depends on the number of times they had previously interacted.

Battle Points can be exchanged for items or decorations at the Battle Point Exchange Service Corner in the Battle Frontier, or spent at Move Tutors who are located in the Battle Frontier.

Generation IV

In Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, the player can earn Battle Points by winning at the Battle Tower. Battle Points can be exchanged for items at the Exchange Service Corner in Battle Park, the location of the Battle Tower. Items the player can purchase with BP include Power items and evolution items.

In Pokémon Platinum, HeartGold and SoulSilver, the player can earn BP from all Battle Frontier facilities. In addition, in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, the player can earn a limited amount of BP once per day at the Trainer House. Battle Points can be exchanged for items at the Exchange Service Corner or scratch cards at the Pokémon Scratch-Off Corner. In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, the player can also spend BP at Move Tutors located in Frontier Access.

Generation V

In Black, White, Black 2, and White 2, the player can earn Battle Points at the Battle Subway. In Black 2 and White 2 only, the player can also earn BP at the Pokémon World Tournament, as well as from the Global Battle Union and Random Matchup.

BP can be exchanged for items at one of the Exchange Service Corners located on each of the platforms at Gear Station. In Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, they can also be spent at the Exchange Service Corner at the Pokémon World Tournament.

Generation VI

In Generation VI, the player can earn Battle Points at the Battle Maison and Battle Institute. Whereas in previous games the player would have to complete an entire round (often requiring the player to defeat 7 consecutive Trainers), at the Battle Maison the player is awarded BP each time they defeat a Trainer.

In Pokémon Bank, the player earns Poké Miles over time, based on the number of Pokémon they have in their Bank. When the player connects a game to their Pokémon Bank account, they can choose to receive any accrued Poké Miles as either Poké Miles or Battle Points (in which case they divided by 10, rounded down) in that game.

Battle Points can be exchanged for items at the Exchange Service Corner at the Battle Maison. In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, the player can spend BP at the Move Tutors located at the Battle Resort.

Generation VII

In Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon, Battle Points can be obtained at the Battle Royal Dome and Battle Tree. In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon only, the player can also play Mantine Surf to earn BP (referred to as Beach Points here) at the Surf Spots at Big Wave Beach, Heahea Beach, Ula'ula Beach, and Poni Beach.

BP can be exchanged for items at the Exchange Service Counter at the Battle Royal Dome and Battle Tree. In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, they can also be exchanged for items at Surf Spots or spent at the Move Tutors at Surf Spots and the Battle Tree.

Generation VIII

In Pokémon Sword and Shield, the player can earn Battle Points at the Battle Tower. BP can be exchanged for various items at the Battle Tower and in Hammerlocke, where the southern Poké Mart houses a BP Shop in addition to the regular store.

In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, the player can earn Battle Points by winning at the Battle Tower. BP can be exchanged for items at the Exchange Service Corner in Battle Park.

In Pokémon HOME, the player earns Pokémon HOME Points for storing Pokémon. These can be converted to Battle Points and sent to Pokémon Sword and Shield (at a rate of 1 Battle Point for every 30 HOME Points) or Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl (at a rate of 1 Battle Point for every 20 HOME Points).

Battle Points were also rewarded to players performing well in Ranked Battles.

In Verily Vanquishing Vileplume II, Emerald was revealed to have used the Battle Points he had earned during his Battle Frontier challenge to teach Fire Punch to his Dusclops.
