In Galar, there are different types of weather occurring in the Wild Area and the Crown Tundra. The type of weather will affect which wild Pokémon appear in the area. During Snow and Blizzard overworld weather, the in-battle weather condition will be Hail. There are nine types of weather in the Wild Area. It is the only weather condition to not occur in the Isle of Armor.
For the Blizzard overworld weather to occur in the Wild Area, there is a prerequisite to have first visited Hammerlocke.

===Light snow=== | ===Light snow===
Snow falls slowly to the ground. It is in Snowpoint City, in occasionn on Acuity Lakefront and 216 on January 12 in Generation IV. In Generation V, it is referred to as "Snowy" by the gate's bulletin and is found on many days during winter in all places snow falls. In Generation VI, it is occasionally found in Dendemille Town and Anistar City, and sometimes falls outside Frost Cavern in the day after rescuing Abomasnow. No battles take place outside any buildings in Snowpoint City, so it is unclear if any weather is assumed in battle in Generation IV. In Generation V, however, light snow does not cause hail in battle, while in Generation IV and VI, it does.
===Hailstorm=== | |||
Precipitate falls more quickly and heavily, falling diagonally from one of the top corners of the screen, leaving the impression that it is being carried by strong winds, and sometimes appears to be mixed with hail. In Generation IV, it is found on 216, Acuity Lakefront, and at the summit of Mt. Silver. In Generation V, it is referred to as "Hail" by the gate's bulletin and is found on some days during the winter in Driftveil City, Cold Storage, 6, Mistralton City, 7, and Twist Mountain. In Generation VI, there is always a hailstorm on 17, as well as sometimes outside Frost Cavern, although only before rescuing Abomasnow.

===Blizzard=== | ===Blizzard===
Snow whips around, making it difficult to see. | Snow whips around, making it difficult to see. In Generation IV, it is found on 217, and less often on 216. Snow Warning |
Hail (Japanese: あられ Hail) is a type of weather introduced in battle in Generation III. It was introduced in the overworld in Generation IV.
It will last for five turns if created using Snow Warning (Generation VI onward) or Hail, or eight, if created by a Pokémon holding an Icy Rock. If created using Snow Warning (prior to Generation VI) or encountered in the overworld, it will last until replaced.
In Pokémon Sword and Shield, Max Hailstorm causes a hailstorm after dealing damage.
Hail does not exist in Pokémon Legends: Arceus and Generation IX, as it has been replaced by snow.

Additionally, in the following dungeons, Pokémon with Snow Warning can spawn, causing hail to occur and possibly override existing weather:
- In Explorers series:
- Snover in Crevice Cave
- Abomasnow in Hidden Land, floors 20-24 of Zero Isle South, floors 20-24 of Destiny Tower and in Oblivion Forest
Effects
In battle
- At the end of each turn, damages each Pokémon for 1/16 of its maximum HP, unless it is Ice-type; has one of the Abilities Ice Body, Snow Cloak, Magic Guard, or Overcoat; or is holding Safety Goggles.
- Activates the following Abilities: Forecast, Ice Body, Snow Cloak, and Slush Rush. Additionally, Ice Face turns Eiscue from its Noice Face form to its Ice Face form.
- Causes Forecast to change Castform to its Snowy Form.
- Changes Weather Ball to an Ice-type move and doubles its power.
- From Generation IV onward, allows Blizzard to bypass accuracy check.
- In Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, allows Blizzard to hit through Protect and Detect 30% of the time.
- Halves the power of Solar Beam and Solar Blade.
- Causes Moonlight, Synthesis, and Morning Sun to recover ¼ of the user's maximum HP.
- Allows Aurora Veil to be used, though the effect lingers even after Hail ends.
Outside of battle
Sweet Scent and Honey will fail if it is hailing in the area.
Variations
Light snow
Snow falls slowly to the ground. It is in Snowpoint City, in occasionn on Acuity Lakefront and Route 216 on January 12 in Generation IV.
Hailstorm
Precipitate falls more quickly and heavily, falling diagonally from one of the top corners of the screen, leaving the impression that it is being carried by strong winds, and sometimes appears to be mixed with hail. In Generation IV, it is found on Route 216, Acuity Lakefront, and at the summit of Mt. Silver. In Generation V, it is referred to as "Hail" by the gate's bulletin and is found on some days during the winter in Driftveil City, Cold StorageBW, Route 6, Mistralton City, Route 7, and Twist Mountain. In Generation VI, there is always a hailstorm on Route 17, as well as sometimes outside Frost Cavern, although only before rescuing Abomasnow.
Blizzard
Snow whips around, making it difficult to see. In Generation IV, it is found on Route 217, and less often on Route 216. In Generation V, it is only found occasionally in Icirrus City, Dragonspiral Tower, and Route 8 in the winter.

Trivia
- Despite being referred to as "hail" in the games, the way it is depicted is more similar to ice pellets. While hail cannot occur during a snowstorm or in snowy areas in the real world, ice pellets can.
- In real life, hail most commonly occurs in winter in mild climates. In Pokémon Black, White, Black 2, and White 2, just like in real life, hail only occurs in areas with a warmer climate (e.g. Driftveil City); colder climates (e.g. Icirrus City, Dragonspiral Tower and Route 8) instead have light snow or blizzards.
- An unused hail quote appears within the code of the games.
