== Gen 1 Poison Chance ==
I've been looking through pokered, the disassembly of Pokemon Red, and discovered that Sludge has the same effect as Smog in the ROM. That is to say, Sludge appears to have a 40% chance of poisoning the opponent instead of a 30% in Generation 1 games (or at least American Red/Blue). A few references I've seen online that have the raw hex data have confirmed my findings (here's one of them: http://kusabax.cultnet.net/romdocs/rbymoveinfo.txt ). :Yep, that looks consistent with the disassembly. In Red, [https://github.com/pret/pokered/blob/master/data/moves.asm Sludge and Smog have POISON_SIDE_EFFECT2], and POISON_SIDE_EFFECT2 [https://github.com/pret/pokered/blob/master/engine/battle/core.asm#L7309 loads] 0x67 (= 103). 103/256 = 0.40234375, which is roughly 40%. [https://github.com/pret/pokecrystal/blob/master/battle/moves/moves.asm#L137 In Crystal], it has a 30% chance.
:Interestingly, the Stadium description says it has a 50% chance of poisoning, so it's possible (but unlikely) that the chance is different in Stadium. --[[User:SnorlaxMonster|<span style="color:#A70000">'''Snorlax'''</span>]][[User talk:SnorlaxMonster|<span style="color:#0000A7">'''Monster'''</span>]] 08:57, 21 March 2017 (UTC)

Gen 1 Poison Chance

I've been looking through pokered, the disassembly of Pokemon Red, and discovered that Sludge has the same effect as Smog in the ROM. That is to say, Sludge appears to have a 40% chance of poisoning the opponent instead of a 30% in Generation 1 games (or at least American Red/Blue). A few references I've seen online that have the raw hex data have confirmed my findings (here's one of them: http://kusabax.cultnet.net/romdocs/rbymoveinfo.txt ). Yep, that looks consistent with the disassembly. In Red, Sludge and Smog have POISON_SIDE_EFFECT2, and POISON_SIDE_EFFECT2 loads 0x67 (= 103). 103/256 = 0.40234375, which is roughly 40%. In Crystal, it has a 30% chance.
Interestingly, the Stadium description says it has a 50% chance of poisoning, so it's possible (but unlikely) that the chance is different in Stadium. --SnorlaxMonster 08:57, 21 March 2017 (UTC)
