Ditto
In Red Version, my Ditto seems unable to use Struggle unless it has Transformed.  If I start a battle out with no PP left for Transform, and select Fight, it goes to the move list as usual instead of automatically inputting Struggle for my attack that round.  Selecting Transform just gives back the message, "No PP left for this move!"  Running out of PP while Ditto is already Transformed allows me to use Struggle normally.  Has anyone else encountered this problem?  Is it interesting enough to warrant adding here? —doctorlit 01:17, 12 January 2012 (UTC)

:Before someone deletes this and tells me off for responding to an old statement, I was about to ask something vaguely related anyway, and this is quicker and more convenient than starting a new section... (And it's also the most recent question, and thus my question isn't going to be buried by replying to an old question.) Can Pokemon even be obtained at Levels above 100 with the Johto Guard Glitch? The latter two glitch Pokemon learn Struggle above Level 100. (At level 205, to be exact.) Which, if they're not, in fact, obtainable via the Johto Guard Glitch, would render that portion incorrect. (As you couldn't obtain an over-Level 100 Pokemon that way without cheating.) Correct me if I'm wrong or there's some glitch that can enable non-Level 101+ Pokemon to become over Level 100 or something. Though, I'm not even sure that trivia point should be listed, it's not like they do it for signature moves or anything else, aside from like height/weight. :Sturdy only applies when the Pokémon has full health. So the only Pokémon that is guaranteed to knock itself out with Struggle would be Shedinja, and I believe iirc that it will survive with Sturdy as its ability. (You can legitimately get a Shedinja with Sturdy with HA Carbink w/ Skill Swap.) <span style="color:#C00;">★</span><span style="color:#C00;">Jo the Marten</span><span style="color:#C00;">★</span> <span style="color:#C00;">ಠ_ಠ</span><span style="color:#90C870;">♥</span> 19:42, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
::I'd say that should be tested. Struggle says recoil-preventing Abilities don't stop Struggle's "recoil", and Sturdy says that it doesn't prevent a Pokemon from knocking itself out with recoil damage. ==Struggle REALLY didn't appear in the anime?==
Because Struggle is just... Struggle. Something that the Pokémon does when it is not using their moves (Normally for lack of PP). From that thought... Any physical blow used by the Pokémon that doesn't suit any of its moves, would be Struggle.
The best example of this is how the Pokémon fought their clones in the first movie. They weren't using any of their official moves, they were doing a "pure combat". A "Struggle".
Even if we think they were using Tackle, some Pokémon definitely didn't have that move at that moment. Ash's Pikachu is an example. Vinix (talk) 05:34, 6 December 2016 (UTC)
Chilan Berry Interaction
I just used Struggle against a wild Rattata holding a Chilan Berry in Platinum, and the Chilan Berry was stated to have triggered. It would have been a 1-hit knockout even at half damage, so I don't know if the damage was actually reduced or not. It may be worth investigating and noting somewhere in the article, as I thought Struggle was now typeless, not Normal. - Xelrog T. Apocalypse (talk) 19:41, 27 August 2018 (UTC)
: In Gen V onwards, Struggle is counted as typeless. In Gen IV though, I think it counts as a Normal-Type move that ignores the type chart. I might be wrong but I think it's how Struggle works in Gen 4. Ice Cream 20:03, 27 August 2018 (UTC)

So, in Pokemon Rumble World, I noticed that Struggle (which can be learned by rusty Pokemon) appears and acts like a Normal type move. I encountered the following strange situation in LA. Abra uses Struggle against Mr. Mime, but 1) the animation does not play 2) Mr. Mime takes no damage 3) Abra still gets 25% recoil damage. Note that on the previous turn, Abra successfully used Struggle, the animation did play and Mr. Mime did take some damage. Also, we should REALLY test on Kecleon in all gens with Kecleon in it. TorchicBlaziken (talkedits) 00:30, 12 April 2011 (UTC)

Rough Skin / Rocky Helmet / Static / Et.c.

It's a contact move, so deserves a mention either way, no? PLA 11:01, 1 September 2011 (UTC)

In other generations

The picture in this section of Generation III doesn't actually depict this move being used. Anyone have a better one? Jordan042 18:17, 7 December 2011 (UTC)

What are you on about? Yes it does. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 18:27, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
The animation is done incorrectly. The first frame of the animation must be mid-move so that people using browsers which don't display animated png images can see the move. People who are using browsers that do can check it on the image page - the history list doesn't show animation. Werdnae (talk) 19:58, 7 December 2011 (UTC)
Pardon me, but why not just use gifs? They're animated in all browsers, wouldn't that be better? - unsigned comment from Missingno. Master (talkcontribs) 11:22, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

Description?

Anyone got any modified Pokemon that has this move as a standard move at all? Would be helpful for getting down a description on this page. Thanks. Frozen Fennec 16:43, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

The Ability Rock Head

what if a Pokemon has the ability rock head will it still take damage?--Hydra3dragon (talk) 05:17, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

Critical Hit

Should it be noted that Struggle can score a critical hit, despite what you would expect from a last-ditch move? Takaoldaria (talk) 08:47, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

Glitch Pokemon

Should it be noted that most glitch Pokemon, such as 4, ゥァ (DD), can learn this move? q~Bisumito Is Snazzy~p (Talk~) 16:41, 29 August 2012 (UTC)

Before someone deletes this and tells me off for responding to an old statement, I was about to ask something vaguely related anyway, and this is quicker and more convenient than starting a new section... Magic Guard

Since the Ability Magic Guard does not prevent Struggle's recoil damage, would it be worth mentioning here? Pikakirby (talk) 18:07, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

Trivia

In the trivia, it states that Leech Seed has never been featured in the anime. This, however, is incorrect. Ash's Bulbasaur has used Leech Seed multiple times, namely in the original series. This is specifically stated in the page titled, "Ash's Bulbasaur." Mattakash (talk) 18:07, 8 February 2014 (UTC)

It mentions Leech Life, not Leech Seed. --It's Funktastic~!話してください 18:10, 8 February 2014 (UTC)

Struggle + Sturdy?

Okay, this is a really weird (and mostly theoretical) question, but under just the right circumstances can Struggle break through Sturdy and cause a one-hit knockout? --Stratelier 19:36, 30 March 2014 (UTC)

Sturdy only applies when the Pokémon has full health. So the only Pokémon that is guaranteed to knock itself out with Struggle would be Shedinja, and I believe iirc that it will survive with Sturdy as its ability. (You can legitimately get a Shedinja with Sturdy with HA Carbink w/ Skill Swap.) Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 19:42, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
I'd say that should be tested. Struggle says recoil-preventing Abilities don't stop Struggle's "recoil", and Sturdy says that it doesn't prevent a Pokemon from knocking itself out with recoil damage. I'd imagine Shedinja would KO itself if it used Struggle while it had Sturdy. Tiddlywinks (talk) 19:50, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
Maybe test it by having Shedinja use a recoil move that it does know? - unsigned comment from StrongRadd (talkcontribs)
For anyone actually intending to test it, I looked it up, and Shedinja's only recoil move (other than Struggle) is Double-Edge, which it gets only from FRLG/E/XD move tutors. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 05:21, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

Gen 1 Glitch

Should the gen 1 glitch that caused wild pokémon to have infinite PP be mentioned as it prevents wild pokemon from being able to use struggle? Zombiedude347 (talk) 09:00, 29 February 2016 (UTC)

Struggle REALLY didn't appear in the anime?

In Gen V onwards, Struggle is counted as typeless. In Gen IV though, I think it counts as a Normal-Type move that ignores the type chart. I might be wrong but I think it's how Struggle works in Gen 4. Ice Cream 20:03, 27 August 2018 (UTC)

Struggle in Pokemon Rumble World

So, in Pokemon Rumble World, I noticed that Struggle (which can be learned by rusty Pokemon) appears and acts like a Normal type move. I tried it against Rock type Pokemon, and it wasn't very effective, but used it on a Normal type, with normal effectiveness. I haven't tried it with STAB yet. Should this be added to the wiki? Bypass accuracy in Legends: Arceus?

I encountered the following strange situation in LA. Abra uses Struggle against Mr. Mime, but 1) the animation does not play 2) Mr. Mime takes no damage 3) Abra still gets 25% recoil damage. Note that on the previous turn, Abra successfully used Struggle, the animation did play and Mr. Mime did take some damage. Therefore, was it a bug or can Struggle actually miss in Legends: Arceus, despite what is stated in the article? Y2110 (talk) 23:30, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
