Shouldn't there be at least some discussion before moving this page, especially considering that it's a politically-heavy thing. The Turkish government may insist on calling their country "Türkiye" in all possible languages, but this practice is still far from being widespread. It's a thing for diplomats and politicians, anyway. Colloquial names exist and there's time and place for using them, for example when talking about a children's video game. We're not bound by any diplomatic protocol here, there's no need to be this correct. I'd say move the page back. --Maxim (talk) 14:45, 24 December 2022 (UTC)
:I agree, Google maps doesnt doesnt even label the country as "Türkiye"... There is a bigger case for Pokémon in the Czech Republic to be moved since the Czech government has been lobbying for a change and it is more internationally recognised as "Czechia" but we haven't done that yet. The day may come but as far as the English language is concerned its still "Turkey" imo.-- 4iamking (talk) 14:50, 24 December 2022 (UTC)
::Just to update, I moved the page back and undid the edits that changed "Turkey" to "Türkiye" in the article, I strongly feel like such a change ought to have been discussed first.-- 4iamking (talk) 15:16, 24 December 2022 (UTC)
::: I think this is about time we can consider moving the page to Türkiye? It is listed as "Türkiye" on the United Nations Member States page. It has become more widespread around the globe. Google Maps changed it to Türkiye. International organizations such as Olympics, Eurovision, UEFA, FIFA are all using Türkiye. — Rockapheller (talk page) 05:42, 28 July 2024 (UTC) |

Unauthorized move
Shouldn't there be at least some discussion before moving this page, especially considering that it's a politically-heavy thing. The Turkish government may insist on calling their country "Türkiye" in all possible languages, but this practice is still far from being widespread. It's a thing for diplomats and politicians, anyway. Colloquial names exist and there's time and place for using them, for example when talking about a children's video game. We're not bound by any diplomatic protocol here, there's no need to be this correct. I'd say move the page back. --Maxim (talk) 14:45, 24 December 2022 (UTC)
