Thorton is the Frontier Brain of the Battle Factory in the Sinnoh and Johto regions. It is suggested he is very intelligent, as he mentions inventing a machine that analyzes the player's Pokémon. If he is defeated he will hand over the Factory Print.

Initial battle
Pokémon Masters EX
*Before battle
Thorton (Masters)
:"Bzweeeeep! Sorry, don't mind me. What I'm using is an invention of mine. It's my data-analyzing machine It's telling me what you've rented for this match. I see! You've rented <Pokémon> , <Pokémon>, and <Pokémon>. I have to say, that's a good setup. Like, say, [random number] percent? Oh, don't let that number concern you! All righty, let's get going!"
Thorton forms a sync pair with Bronzong and Magnezone in Pokémon Masters EX. Thorton became a playable sync pair since the game's release.

*Defeating the player

*Being defeated
:"Whoa! You sure showed me!"

*After being defeated
:"Hmm... I got handed the loss here. It's not making me happy at all, losing. Even though I'm not happy, I did glean some useful data, I suppose. That makes me glad I battled you. So, did you get to like those Pokémon you rented? As a Factory Head, it would sure make me happy if you did. Next time, come back with different rental Pokémon."

Rematch
*Before battle
:"Bzweeeeep! Let's see what I can see about you through my data-analyzing machine. So, what have you rented for this match...? I see! You've rented <Pokémon> , <Pokémon>, and <Pokémon>. I have to say, that's a good setup. It's a combination of friendship with cooperation all around. I'd say it's like [random number] percent? Oh, don't let that number concern you! All righty, let's get going! No losing for me this time!"

*Being defeated
:"Whoa! You sure showed me!"

*After being defeated
:"Hmm... I got handed another loss. It's not making me happy at all, this. In fact, I'm stewing here. I thought I learned a lot about Pokémon since I lost to you. But that's all right. Some things you learn from winning. But some things you learn by losing. I hope you'll keep renting our Pokémon and give me a chance to redeem myself!"

:"Oh, don't let the beeping concern you. It's time to begin!"

* After being defeated
:"Whoa! You sure showed me!"
:"I, on the other hand, appear to have had suboptimal results this time. That 90 percent figure must have been your odds, not mine."

;Pokémon Center
* Random conversation
:"If you collect lots of data and analyze your Pokémon battles, you can utilize that data moving forward!"
:"It's true! It's part of my job description as Factory Head!"
:"Pokémon get disappointed when they lose battles, too. That's why you've got to formulate new strategies!"
:"So that you can learn from your mistakes! And so next time, you can win! And things will go exactly as planned!"

:* If spoken to again
::"I always get tons of great data when I battle against you."
::"It'll all be put to good use when I go back to the Battle Factory!"
::"Although I might as well collect as much data as I can while I'm here..."
::"The more knowledge I can amass, the more helpful I can be to you in a battle."
::"AND I can keep getting stronger in the meantime! Perfect logic, just as I calculated!"

* Random conversation
:"Do you think my hairstyle is weird?"
:"I'm really specific about how I do it, but it doesn't take long at all."
:"That could be because I use my invention the Auto-Hairstyle-O-Matic to analyze my hair type."
:"Want to try it out, <player>? My invention can turn any hairstyle into one that's just like mine."

:* If spoken to again
::"My Auto-Hairstyle-O-Matic doesn't work on bald people."
::"Just keep that in mind."

* Random conversation
:"Bronzong can call down the rain, so people in ancient times used to think they were deities."
:"In fact, some people still worship them as rain bringers today, if you can believe that."
:"I don't really buy into that, though. The only results I believe in are the ones I can prove numerically."
:"Besides, if it suddenly started raining indoors, all of my machines would break."

:* If spoken to again
::"Did you know that many Pokémon feel naturally energized by the rain?"
::"For that reason, a lot of Pokémon feel thankful toward Bronzong, too."

* Random conversation
:"You look like you're itching to know more about me!"
:"In other words, you'd like to interpret my data. Is that correct? If so, feel free!"
:"Let's see. Um... Male, teenager... No, that's not the sort of data you want, is it?"
:"If you want to learn more about me, you'll need to collect some data. Spending time with me is the best way to do that."
:"It just so happens that I'm interested in collecting some data on you as well. Nice timing!"

:* If spoken to again
::"There are plenty of things out there that you can't understand with just a calculator."
::"The more you learn about the world, the more you'll find things about it that interest you."

* Random conversation
:"Grrr... Still at 47 percent? Slower than I expected."
:"Whoa! I was so focused, I didn't even see you there!"
:"I was trying to perform an update on my data-interpreting machine, see..."
:"But it's taking forever! The update's already been going for a hundred hours or so!"

:* If spoken to again
::"This is just the mobile version of my data-interpreting machine, but it's got amazing functionality!"
::"I'll tell you all about what this baby can do next time."
::"If we open that can of worms now, it'll be midnight before I can explain all of its awesome features."

* Special gift conversation
:"My invention the Detect-O-Matic picked this up out in the forest."
:"I did a round of analysis on it, and it seemed right up your alley!"
:"Collecting data and performing analyses are important for all things in life."
:"They are the key to obtaining greater knowledge and experience."

Due to the rules of the Battle Factory, the two use rental Pokémon to Battle each other instead of their own Pokémon. Despite Thorton having much confidence in his battling skills and knowledge, Platinum proves superior to him in both categories, allowing her to defeat him. Angered at his defeat, Thorton throws a temper tantrum until Argenta snaps him out of it by slapping him in the face.

Thorton (Japanese: ネジキ Neziki) is the Frontier Brain in charge of running the Battle Frontier's Battle Factory, acting under the title of Factory Head (Japanese: ファクトリーヘッド Factory Head).

In the core series games

Thorton is the Frontier Brain of the Battle Factory in the Sinnoh and Johto regions. It is suggested he is very intelligent, as he mentions inventing a machine that analyzes the player's Pokémon. If he is defeated he will hand over the Factory Print.

Pokémon

Like the player, he uses rental Pokémon. Therefore, all of his Pokémon are random for both the Gold and Silver Prints, so he can use any Pokémon except for those that are not admissible in the Battle Frontier; these include Mewtwo, Mew, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Celebi, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Deoxys, Dialga, Palkia, Giratina, Phione, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, and Arceus.

In the manga

Pokémon Adventures

Thorton first appears along with his fellow Frontier Brains, Palmer, Dahlia, and Argenta in a meeting; afterward they go back to their facilities. Thorton later appears at his facility, the Battle Factory, where he watches Platinum battle through it. Eventually, Platinum manages to get enough wins to allow her to challenge him and they begin battling.

Later, he is given a Team Galactic camera robot that Riley obtained on Iron Island and is tasked with fixing it. Eventually, he succeeds, but is left exhausted in the process.
