== Romanization ==
Is there any official merchandise or website URLs in Japan that romanize his name as "Go"? Or is it a fan romanization? Because "Goh" (the official English name) is a perfectly valid romanization of the long vowel sound (which can also be conveyed as "Gou" or "Gо̄"), and it obviously derives from the transcribed katakana equivalent of the English word "go" (ゴー). Unless "Go" is what is used as the official trademark name on merchandise/website URLs/etc. in Japan, I'd have no objection to listing his Japanese name as "Goh" and saying that the Japanese and English names are the same for the purpose of listings of his Japanese name, listings of Japanese episode titles, and listings of the Japanese names on the pages for his Pokémon, etc.. But this change would need a consensus. [[User:TheEliteMaster|TheEliteMaster]] ([[User talk:TheEliteMaster|talk]]) 00:26, 11 July 2023 (UTC)

Gender confusion

Is Go actually female? There's more evidence to suggest otherwise, but I need to be certain. PDL (talk) 02:04, 4 October 2019 (UTC)

Go's VA is male, and to my knowledge, male VAs are rarely, if ever used to voice female characters in Japan. GrammarFreak01 (talk) 02:28, 4 October 2019 (UTC)
His character info on the official site refers to him as a boy (少年). --超龍Chao 02:40, 4 October 2019 (UTC)
Well, there you have it. (I too was expecting Go to be female, but I digress.) GrammarFreak01 (talk) 03:16, 4 October 2019 (UTC)
Somehow the person I'm arguing with over Go's gender still believes that Go is actually female. But I'm convinced otherwise. PDL (talk) 04:04, 4 October 2019 (UTC)
A recent interview confirms them to be nonbinary. JordanTH (talk) 23:30, 8 November 2019 (UTC)
Sorry, but that was confirmed to be false. All that was stated is that he's an androgynous male. Ataro (talk) 00:16, 9 November 2019 (UTC)

Pinsir and Scyther's personalities

Pinsir and Scyther already showed personality.

Pinsir: Like most of its species it is aggressive and hostile, however after capture it showed to be affectionate, as it was seen hugging Go while biting his head ala James's Victreebell and Carnivine. It also was seen racing with Scorbunny and Venonat.

Scyther: Being more focused on training since it was seen practicing the speed of its strikes, just like a kendo fighter training.

Do these counts? Esquilo30 (talk) 15:13, 24 December 2019 (UTC)

At the moment, they aren't worthy of their own characters pages for which personality would be added. I would give them more time before adding it.--BigDocFan (talk) 15:26, 24 December 2019 (UTC)

Oh ok. Esquilo30 (talk) 15:31, 24 December 2019 (UTC)

Rika Adachi

Never mind, found it.--BigDocFan (talk) 11:27, 29 December 2019 (UTC)

Separate sections

Should we maybe have separate sections for the Pokemon Go actually used at least 1 in battle or something similar (like a tournament of some sort, etc.), and then have the rest just be boxes with pictures? It would help us avoid all the unnecessary clutter if he does end up capturing like 800 mons.--ShallowShaddoll (talk) 17:28, 29 December 2019 (UTC)

If it gets that far, I'd just make a new page that lists all his Pokemon.Roserade57 (talk) 04:02, 22 February 2020 (UTC)

Possible trivia and re-wording

I'm not sure if these could be reworded or if they are even trivia worthy but firstly, Go is the first male main character to be seen starting out as a new trainer since Ash (May, Dawn, Serena, and Lillie are, of course, all female).

Secondly, Go obtained his second Pokémon before any other new trainer (as above) being 4 episodes after his debut (May was 13 episodes later, Dawn 8 episodes, Serena 44 episodes, and Lillie not at all). He is also the earliest of all main characters to obtain six or more Pokémon (granted, he may not be known to have 6 Pokémon on hand at the same time but he still has more than 6).

Finally, he's the first main character besides Ash to be seen catching a Fire-type Starter Pokémon and the first (again, besides Ash) to catch a Starter outside a flashback since May's Bulbasaur 743 episodes earlier. Dawn's Cyndaquil was hatched from an egg given to her by Lyra, Lana's Popplio was caught in a flashback, the rest of the starters were given to them or caught before May's Bulbasaur or by Ash. Masser (talk) 23:03, 3 January 2020 (UTC)

  1. Not important, gender doesn't matter at all.
  2. Also not important. First capture is the only one in this instance that would be important.
  3. This one is notable.--ForceFire 05:50, 4 January 2020 (UTC)
I've added the third point of trivia but left out the part about physically catching the Fire-type starter Pokémon. That seems way too specific and non-notable. GrammarFreak01 (talk) 06:05, 4 January 2020 (UTC)
Thanks, I thought the first wouldn't be important but thought I'd put in here on the off chance it was or could be reworded, I thought the part about having six Pokémon in the second point would be notable but hey, that's why I checked, and thanks for adding the third point. Masser (talk) 20:36, 4 January 2020 (UTC)
You're welcome. :) GrammarFreak01 (talk) 20:37, 4 January 2020 (UTC)
Ah, "earliest", didn't see that word. I think it's notable, it's something that rarely happens to other characters besides Ash.--ForceFire 04:56, 5 January 2020 (UTC)
But the Fire-type wording is too specific and obvious. GrammarFreak01 (talk) 20:55, 5 January 2020 (UTC)

Dewgong's gender

In its debut episode, Go's newly catched Dewgong started chasing another Dewgong with whom it fell in love. That Dewgong was drawn with long, feminine eyelashes and had a clear female voice. Should this be considered an evidence of Go's Dewgong's gender (male)? --Astrena (talk) 14:54, 30 January 2020 (UTC)

No. If it wasn't stated, we don't know its gender.--ForceFire 16:05, 30 January 2020 (UTC)
But Force Fire, isn't the way it was presented just a way of confirming it? I mean, what else would be a way of confirmation? --Hilaru Wazana (talk) 01:54, 31 January 2020 (UTC)
The only way to confirm genders, in this case at least since Dewgong doesn't have gender differences, is either if a character explicitly calls it a male/female or if it gets affected by Attract/Cute Charm. Neither of which happened. And we're not using behavioral patterns or appearances that are considered "girly", because that is not evidence on ones gender.--ForceFire 04:49, 31 January 2020 (UTC)

Notability for Go's Pokémon.

I have some question, what does a Go's Pokémon need to be considered notable? What are the rules with him?I mean, his Pokés have punctual appearances in several episodes. He's been taking turns among them. And some of them already have more content than other main characters' Pokémon. Is there a consensus? Because, for example, there is no reason why Cubone does not have his page right away. And well, he's a main character like everyone else.Hikaru Wazana (talk) 12:38, 01 March 2020 (UTC)

Main character or not, we cannot treat Go's captures like the others. If we gave each caught Pokemon an article, then we'd have over two dozen articles for Pokemon that for the most part do nothing but sit in the background. And why does Cubone need a page? What did Cubone do to warrant having one now? It didn't do anything other than be your standard "victim Pokemon of the week". Ataro (talk) 22:14, 1 March 2020 (UTC)
In the case of Cubone, he falls into the first rule of the main characters' Pokémon(Bulbapedia:Manual of style)."If they did not, then they would have to have had a significant impact on the plot of the episode or the series as a whole." Cubone won an episode for his capture, as did just about every protagonist in the anime.
Another one that already has a reasonable content is Scyther, which is even appearing in other media (game) besides anime. I know, and understand, that not everyone will have relevant content for a page. But that is my point for this issue. Even because the rule is out of date since the time of the anime of XY. So the question, how does the rules work with Go?Hikaru Wazana (talk) 22:38, 01 March 2020 (UTC)

(resetting indent)A new rule has been made specifically for Go's Pokemon. They have to meet all the requirements noted in the rule. So, Cubone is not notable for now.--ForceFire 06:27, 2 March 2020 (UTC)

How about we make a page "Go's other pokemon." the page is going to get long at this rate. Random Chaos (talk) 22:17, 2 March 2020 (UTC)

Is this trivia worthy?

Since Go caught a Darmanitan with Zen Mode, is it worth mentioning that Go is the first of Ash's friends to catch a Psychic-type Pokémon since Misty's Starmie? Or does it not count since Zen Mode is more of a form change, thus not making Darmanitan a Psychic-type 100% of the time? --PKMNAdventurer (talk) 18:41, 3 March 2020 (UTC)

I vote no. Random Chaos (talk) 19:47, 3 March 2020 (UTC)

Being second is not notable at all.--Rocket Grunt (Report To Me) 19:50, 3 March 2020 (UTC)
it would be the first time in over 1000 episodes and the first time it happened in an episode. That’s notable.--Pikablu (talk) 20:07, 3 March 2020 (UTC)

Go's Pokémon section

I was thinking that maybe it would be better visually and more organizing to put all of Go's Pokémon in the section "Kept at Sakuragi Park", in the ActivePoké Template, and link them with another article "List of Pokémon owned by Go" (except Scyther who already owns its own article). What do you think? I'm showcasing the example below.

Note: I only included a few of his mons to point out the idea. - unsigned comment from Riox-Ibui (talkcontribs)

The problem is that it can generate another messy page like the recurring Pokemon. Some Go Pokés even already have pages practically ready to go to the main space.Hikaru Wazana (talk) 02:38, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
I support this idea, since Go is bound to catch even more Pokémon. A "List of Pokémon owned by Go" page could be formatted like the new List of Pokémon temporarily owned by Ash Ketchum page, rather than the style of the recurring wild Pokémon article. Satsjoe (talk) 13:24, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
That is what I meant. It's been a while that I have created a similar page for Go on my userpage: List of Pokémon owned by GO. (Rioxイブイ 17:28, 8 April 2020 (UTC))

Rattata's Gender

It's hard to tell which gender Rattata is since the whiskers are not on the same size. Esquilo30 (talk) 13:19, 29 March 2020 (UTC)

Rain Dance

I think Ash saying "it wasn't rain dance" was actually referring to Golurk being crazy, rain dance wouldn't explain the way it was acting, or even so I think Go saying could this be Golurk's rain dance I feel is explicit proof that it knows the move rain dance, otherwise I'm not entirely sure why Go would question the way he did. I don't think your first thought if a Caterpie breathes flames is "Is that Caterpie's flamethrower" I'm pretty sure if it was unfamiliar the move you would ask is "Caterpie can use flamethrower?" Since Go asked if this is the result of Golurk's Rain Dance, it didn't come off as "well this is brand new information, I didn't know Golurk can use rain dance" feels like Go is saying one of Golurk's move is indeed rain dance, whether the argument is "Golurk used it here or not" is irrelevant. But that's just my interpretation/perspective, I'll let others decide how it should be handled. --Dman dustin (talk) 21:42, 8 June 2020 (UTC) I assumed it was rain dance but does raid pokemon have extra power than ordinary--[[User:Gian9456] (talk) 7:43, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

Gou Pokemon

Please give me a chance, I know im screw up to you all. I'm doing my best because I want to be part of team. Also, stay safe during the corna virus if I correctly about my family lost two members:(

1. Darmanitan had shown to be bully pokemon to Scorbunny as it teased poor fire bunny pokemon to perfecting any fire types moves. It was being really scum personality.

2. Ekans had shown to loved getting bathed by the hoes.

3. Stantler was shown to be defended the other pokemon from Beedrill along with Nidoran the male pokemon.

4. Beedrill was very angry with food to be stolen then shown to be ok with Ash leaving his arm on ash shoulder

5. Taillow showed you be careful to split in half of the food that it and Sparrow had found :)

6. Farfetch'd was thinking of eating its own main weapon but realized it was part of it and was scared of Taillow and sparrow who wanted to eat it.

7. Pinsir showed you be concerned Pokémon to stop others for fighting as he rejects of battles

8. Misdreavus had an idea to use the tree that was cut by Scyther to show off strength to get food by other pokemon.

9. Golurk showed not to help the pother pokemon until three incidents weren't part of the battles. it wanted to save them.--Gian9456 23:18, 8 June 2020 (UTC)

Magikarp's gender

The two Magikarp Goh caught has yellow whiskers, which means they're males. Esquilo30 (talk) 15:37, 14 June 2020 (UTC)

Unless it was explicitly stated, it's not a male. We can't use gender differences here as a the female variant (of Magikarp) has not appeared in the anime yet, and Magikarp is a pre-Gen IV Pokemon.--ForceFire 15:40, 14 June 2020 (UTC)

Beedrill should have its own profile

It definitely shown to have competitive side against Ash's Dragonite. It will quickly get aggressive to accused pokemon that are nearby that stolen its food. Can you make a new page of "List of Go's Pokemon" and put all Go's Pokemon except Pokemon that are more important as Raboot, Scyther and Beedrill are which would be on Go's page and they have their own pages( as they have). Maybe; On Hand: Raboot, At Cerise park: Scyther and Beedrill( and other Pokemon deemed worthy) and below that: list of other Goh's Pokemon as a link.

Such a page is already being worked on, you can see it here--BigDocFan (talk) 14:30, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
In fact, the listing of Goh's Pokémon could change. Have an "On Hand" section, an "In Rotation" section (with those that already have a page and that he has used in other regions, such as Scyther, Beedrill, Magikarp and Farfetch'd) and that of Pokés in Cerise Park. I was going to decrease the extra volume a lot.--Hikaru Wazana (talk) 15:08, 21 July 2020 (UTC)

Nothing?--Hikaru Wazana (talk) 13:54, 23 July 2020 (UTC)
It is being discussed by the staff. We'll let you folks know here, when a decision has been made. AdilTalk page 08:18, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for bringing it up. The staff had a discussion and came to the conclusion that Raboot and Sobble belong in the 'on hand' section (like Raboot, Sobble seems to sleep out of its ball and was with Goh mostly, as per new episode), the other ones that he uses for battling or any other use in episodes (besides their capture episode of course) can go in the 'in rotation' section until we see them back at the Cerise Lab. The unused ones can go to the List of Goh's Pokémon article. About that, instead of putting a long list cramped under one section, we have decided to divide the article into sections based on the regions where the respective Pokemon was captured in. In the long run, it'd make things easier to manage and also more organized.
As for the 'in rotation' section, if there's a Pokémon listed there who's not notable enough to get mainspaced, we can link it to the Goh's Pokémon article that has its description there. It should work until the Pokémon in question is notable enough to get its own article. AdilTalk page 01:04, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
I liked the idea of separating by region. I hadn't thought of that, good idea.--Hikaru Wazana (talk) 04:28, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
Me neither. The article is pretty well-organized now. GrammarFreak01 (talk) 04:57, 29 July 2020 (UTC)
Agreed, this will be a lot easier to keep track of. Animaltamer7 (talk) 14:50, 29 July 2020 (UTC)

Sunflora

Should Sunflora be added to a Befriended/Temporary section? Goh even commanded Sunflora to use some moves. Luan (talk) 19:14, 9 August 2020 (UTC)

Link to Goh's Pokémon

What do you folks prefer? The template, just the link, or both? I personally like the link more than the template as it seems visually more direct in this specific case. The article in question is more of a general article and practically no image would be able to perfectly describe its content. The best we have is a group shot, which doesn't even include the majority. But I want to know what you think. AdilTalk page 11:12, 30 August 2020 (UTC)

Group shot. Fits with the format going on and the image can be updated when a better one happens.--Pikablu (talk) 11:28, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
I also like the group shot, makes it fit in with the rest of the section's theme. Animaltamer7 (talk) 11:36, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
I think the current model is ideal, I think it's kind of complicated to have a photo with all the Pokémon in Goh together. Putting only the link, without the template, leaves the page empty and without content.
I don't think there should be changes mainly because it took a long time to find a model and organize everything in a good way.--Hikaru Wazana (talk) 12:11, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
I just wanted some input to make sure we're on the same page. In case if a better alternative is available, there's no harm in considering or discussing it otherwise there'd be no progress, even when necessary. If the majority is good with the group shot, then we'll use that. AdilTalk page 12:28, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
I understand, one thing that I think we could try to find a better way is to redirect to the Pokés that are in the Lab. Say, if I want to go see something about Goh's Darmanitan, I have to go to the list page, and then go to the specific page(This process on the pages of other main characters is much more easier). Was having a direct link on the Goh page better?I know that by the end of Journeys some of those Pokémon will not have their own page, but some have, and they are important. But they were never officially on the Goh main team.--Hikaru Wazana (talk) 12:40, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
It's a little subjective maybe, but I felt that the link got the point across sooner than the template. That's all. The structure itself of the listing article is fine, and direct links are only useful when the specific character have their own page, if that's what you were referring to in the 2nd half of your comment.
As for the first question, searching those with no pages, i.e. Goh's Heracross, we already have redirects that ideally should go to the respective mon directly. For instance, if you search Goh's Heracross, it'll take you directly to its own sub-section without having to scroll through the list. It was initially an oversight on my part that I had linked them to the general region sections as opposed to the specific members. If there's a link that currently doesn't redirect correctly, please fix it if/when you come across it. AdilTalk page 13:01, 30 August 2020 (UTC)

Sunflora

I think Sunflora might be put before Ash's Pikachu in "temporary" Pokémon section, because it was used in the past even if its was revealed after the episode that Goh used Pikachu.--Lockheedpryde (talk) 00:21, 13 September 2020 (UTC)

I get what you mean, but that'd honestly be more confusing for general readers than following the episode order, particularly for sections such as Pokémon that a Trainer used. AdilTalk page 06:07, 13 September 2020 (UTC)

Goh's Pokémon

I was thinking that it might be better to have the section of Goh's Pokemon rearranged visually like the following example:

On hand

This list will show the Pokémon that Goh keeps on hand

Goh Raboot.png
Scorbunny → Raboot
Goh Sobble.png
Sobble

At Cerise Park/In rotation

This list will show all the Pokémon that Goh owns, who reside in Cerise Park. As of JN038 we have seen that Golurk was staying at the Park since it's capture, but as of the latest episode it was being rotated on Goh's main team, which can further happen for all the Pokemon that Goh owns. If one of thems has it's own article we link it to that, otherwise we link it to the article "List of Pokemon owned by Goh".

Do you mean to say we should list all of Goh's Pokémon on his main page like above? AdilTalk page 09:42, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
Yes. And for the Pokémon that don't have their article we link it to the article "List of Pokemon owned by Goh". (Rioxイブイ 21:34, 29 September 2020 (UTC))

Goh's Pinsirn

I was thinking that it might be better to Goh's Pinsir will be moved to the section of "In rotation", because, like Golurk, Pinsir stayed at least one episode on Goh's hand.--Lockheedpryde (talk) 23:11, 23 September 2020 (UTC)

I think there should be no problem. Ask Adil, he must have a position on this.--Hikaru Wazana (talk) 00:21, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
I'll have to double check. I'll get back to you on this later. AdilTalk page 09:42, 24 September 2020 (UTC)

How is Goh a Generation 7 character?

I noticed on Goh's page he had Gen VII in his list of generations along with Gen VIII. How is Goh a Generation 7 character? Koopabulba (talk) 15:40, 26 November 2020 (UTC)

Is this trivia worthy?

Is it worth mentioning that Goh is the first of Ash's friends to trade away a Pokémon (his second Pinsir), seal away a Pokémon (his Eternatus), give away a Pokémon (his Dugtrio), and release a Pokémon (his White Flower Floette)? Or is this too specific to be worth mentioning? --PKMNAdventurer (talk) 20:07, 14 May 2021 (UTC)

Dawn traded Buizel and released Pachirisu.--Rocket Grunt 20:11, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
She did along with giving away her Ambipom, but she didn't seal away one of her Pokémon. --PKMNAdventurer (talk) 20:37, 14 May 2021 (UTC)
Too specific.--ForceFire 05:02, 15 May 2021 (UTC)

Reference to Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Goh caught an Alolan Ninetales in Sinnoh's Mount Coronet in Leaping Toward the Dream!. Could this be an early reference to Pokémon Legends: Arceus where one can acquire an Alolan Vulpix in Hisui after completing a specific Request Mission? Or is this a bit of a stretch since the Alolan Vulpix you get in Pokémon Legends: Arceus is located in Alabaster Icelands instead of Coronet Highlands? --PKMNAdventurer (talk) 06:11, 21 March 2022 (UTC)

Yes, nothing more than coincidence. The circumstances between each event are completely different outside of involving a member of the Vulpix line. Ataro (talk) 07:24, 21 March 2022 (UTC)
Ok. Thanks for clearing it up. --PKMNAdventurer (talk) 19:35, 22 March 2022 (UTC)

Romanization

TheEliteMaster (talk) 00:26, 11 July 2023 (UTC)

It's spelled "Go" going by the edit summary here. --超龍Chao 01:41, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
"Go" has also been seen on music cover art, and even a bilingual episode title. Bluesun (talk) 01:47, 11 July 2023 (UTC)
Okay, then "Go" is the official romanization. Case closed. TheEliteMaster (talk) 02:35, 11 July 2023 (UTC)

Stantler?

Why is it missing from the page? He caught a Stantler alongside the Misdreavus and it was shown in Cerise's lab later on as well.- unsigned comment from Flygonfanno1 (talkcontribs)

Stantler doesn't have its own article like some of Goh's Pokemon, you can find Stantler on here--BigDocFan, Junior Admin Bulbapedia (talk) 13:33, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
