Valencia Island (Japanese: ダイダイ島 Daidai Island) is located in the southwestern region of the Orange Islands.

Ash and his friends first crash-landed onto Valencia Island in Poké Ball Peril after a trip aboard Team Rocket’s blimp, beginning their adventures in the Orange Islands.

Valencia Island is home to Professor Ivy and her extensive lab. She studies the alternate coloration of certain Pokémon on the island, including Vileplume. The laboratory is nestled amongst dense forest and a wide bay. Brock decided to remain on Valencia to assist the Professor and her assistants with the research and general upkeep of the lab. However, he later left the facility prior to A Tent Situation, unable to speak of what occurred.

The island also has its own blimp station and Pokémon Center.

The Electric Tale of Pikachu

Valencia Island appeared in The Orange Islands, where Ash arrived there and registered for the Orange League. After defeating a trio of punks, Ash rushed to catch a ferry to Mikan Island, but barely missed it. While waiting for the next one, Pikachu ended up finding a Lapras being attacked by a group of Krabby. Once Ash had driven the Krabby away with Squirtle's Hydro Pump, he had Pikachu approach Lapras and get it inside of a Poké Ball so that he could take it to a Pokémon Center.

While Lapras was being healed, Ash learned that it had likely gotten separated from its herd, which wouldn't return to the island for months, so he decided to take care of Lapras and officially added it to his team. Having missed another ferry in the meantime, Ash figured he could cross the ocean on Lapras's back, which it agreed to after being reassured by Pikachu, starting Ash's journey across the Orange Islands in earnest.

In this canon, Valencia Island is referred to as the largest of the Orange Islands, instead of Mandarin Island South.

Trivia

• Pokémon on Valencia Island having different colors than the same species elsewhere in the world is similar to the concept of regional forms, which would be introduced into the core series games with Pokémon Sun and Moon, 17 years after Valencia Island's debut.
