#REDIRECT Groups of Legendary and Mythical Pokémon
Much like how every region has a legendary trio, every region also has a legendary duo. These Pokémon often either share traits or are polar opposites. They are often found after the player gets past the Elite Four but aren't as important in the main storyline as the trios are.

Duos
The Mew duo
*Kanto: Mew and Mewtwo
The Mew duo is the legendary duo of Kanto consisting of Mewtwo and Mew. Mewtwo was created from Mew's DNA meaning that the two are basically related. They were both the featured legendaries in Mewtwo Strikes Back.

The Bird duo
*Johto: Ho-Oh and Lugia
The bird duo is a legendary duo of Johto that consists of Ho-Oh and Lugia.  Ho-Oh and Lugia are often regarded as polar opposites. Lugia represents the sea, the color gray/silver and is the mascot of Silver while Ho-Oh represents the sky, gold/rainbows, and is the mascot of Gold. Both are also trio masters; Lugia is the master of the legendary birds while Ho-Oh is the master of the legendary beasts.

The Eon duo
*Hoenn: Latias and Latios
The eon duo is a legendary duo of Hoenn that consists of Latias and Latios. They are region's roaming Pokémon and they share their typing, four of their base stats and even several moves they learn when they level up. Both were featured in the movie Heroes.

The Subconscious duo
*Sinnoh: Darkrai and Cresselia
The subconscious duo is a legendary duo of Sinnoh that consists of Darkrai and Cresselia. Darkrai and Cresselia are commonly seen as polar opposites, just like the aforementioned Johto bird duo of Ho-Oh and Lugia. Darkrai and Cresselia are known as the subconscious duo because of how Darkrai is said to give people nightmares, while Cresselia does the opposite, and give people pleasant dreams. Furthermore, Cresselia and Darkrai also appear in Mystery Dungeon 2 as enemies. They will both make their anime debuts in DP104.

The Sea Angel Duo
*Sinnoh: Manaphy and Phione
The sea fairy duo is a legendary duo of Sinnoh that consists of Manaphy and Phione. Manaphy and Phione are both sea-angel-remnicent Pokémon, share similar species names (Seafaring and Sea Drifter), and both only obtained from one of two events, the first available is through egg (Ranger game event for Manaphy egg, breed Manaphy for Phione egg), and second is moderate level (Toys 'R' Us event for Manaphy, store 250 Pokémon in My Pokémon Ranch for Phione.) In both cases, Phione is relatively easier to obtain.

Trivia
*Both Lugia and Ho-Oh were seen in the anime before Generation II: Ho-Oh was seen in the first episode and Lugia was seen in The Power of One, the second movie.
