Contradiction
In-Game Description: "The user tackles the foe with a high-speed spin. The slower the user, the greater the damage." Article Description: "Gyro Ball is a Steel-type move introduced in Generation IV that power depends on foe's speed."

- I think it depends on the difference between the speed of the defender and the attacker. The slower the attacker is compared to the foe, the more powerful the move is. --TTEchidna 23:33, 10 June 2007 (UTC)
- Conversely, the slower the foe is, they'd just as well be a type resistant to Steel attacks. There's a formula to calculate the damage in relation to both speeds, and it would a good idea to post it in the article, but I don't know it. All I know is it maxes out when your speed is 1/6 of the foe's (or was it 1/16?). -Juunannio 1:41, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

- Does it really depend on the Speed stats in the way the article describes? Because a Shuckle (Spd 5) using it against a Deoxys Speed (Spd 180) would seem to do 900 base damage, which is clearly more than the article claims is the maximum (150) (and does not count EVs/IVs/natures/modifiers/etc.). And how is that figure of 150 obtained in the first place? By assuming identical opponents that vary only in their stat modifiers (6 increases versus 6 reducers)? ~ Serial Colour 18:58, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, it does depend on the speed stats. However, 1) it is dependent on the stat as used in the battle (and so is affected by stat-altering moves and paralysis), not the base stat, and 2) it will cap at 150, so if the power using that formula is over 150, it will only be 150 power. Doesn't Baron Alberto's Lickilicky also use Gyro Ball? I'm pretty sure that it used it against Darkrai (then again, maybe it was when Alberto was trapped inside Lickilicky's body...). Diachronos 16:05, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

Trick Room
Does Gyro Ball still work well for the slower Pokemon in Trick Room, now that it is actually the faster Pokemon? Dexington 21:06, 27 March 2009 (UTC)
- Trick Room does not alter the speed stat, it merely reverses the order of the Pokemons' turns. So it would do the same damage as it would whether or not Trick Room was activated.
