Been playing SS for a while now, and just got back into breeding. Been breeding a Pikachu with a Ditto just to get a shiny Pichu (which requires 21 cycles to hatch), and as soon as I get the egg, it says "It appears to move occasionally. It may be close to hatching." Due to the information stated under mechanics, this message would appear when there's 5-9 cycles left. I'll look into it more for when it changes to "It's making sounds!" [[User:KurosakisTwin|KurosakisTwin]] 20:02, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

:After checking every 85 steps (goldenrod north gate straight down til you hit the water's edge by the day care), The egg changed status to "it's making sounds!" after 1630 steps, or a little more than 6 cycles. The egg hatched after 3410 steps, or about 13 cycles. My conclusion is that they changed the cycles from 255 (and 256 does not create a rounded number, either).

Capitalization

I'm seeing that "Egg" is written with initial caps. However, too many articles link to this... Is it possible that I'm basing myself on too few occurrences? --Johans 04:21, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

If we added a section called "Notable Eggs", ask TTE to put Darkeiya in (Just a joke). Psychicdpiconani475.gif Optimus35Talk | DP Fighting 06:51, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Sorry, but I didn't understand the joke :P. Anyway, I saw again an ocurrence of the word "Egg" in the game, so I'm moving this if no one minds. --Johans 16:48, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
TTE calls Darkeiya an 'egg' PH34RИван 09:26, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
Oh, I get it. I should get on the Bulbagarden forums more often or wherever it happened.
As for the move I was willing to do, I backed off because the "eggs" in Snap aren't necessarily like "Eggs" in that a Trainer could make them hatch when having them in their party. So I only capitalized the ocurrences of "egg" that refer to "Egg" as in the definition from the Generation II onwards. --Johans 16:17, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Genders

How does the gender of the hatched pokemon is determined?

There's a percent chance of it being one gender or the other (usually 50-50, but there's been things like 85 male-15 female, etc.). There's no way you as a player can control it.--Loveはドコ? (talk contribs) 02:11, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Shiny chance in English Crystal

...it's only 12.5? I've definetly seen a lot of different sites/people say 50%... Tina δ281 19:22, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

It's 50% in the Japanese Crystal, but for whatever reason it was reduced in the English version, as Meowth346 proved. IIMarckus 19:25, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Pokémon Channel

There is an egg guessing game, called "Eggzamination: Hatch Up!" Do you think this should be noted here? Big Nutter 18:23, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

Sugimori art species

Mooites, if you can find a source that states it to be Pichu that would be great. I'm personally fine with leaving it as it is now temporarily, but considering we already know one is a Togepi it would be nice if we could confirm the other as either Pichu or Elekid. IIMarckus 02:58, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

This Egg from Sugimori Artwork appears in Puzzle Challenge as Elekid's egg. It's Elekid's. Pichu's Egg looks different. It was shown in the anime and the mangas (Special and Golden Boys) - it was Yellow with a black thing on the bottom. The one from Sugimori's artwork is definitely Elekid. --Maxim 20:13, 28 November 2008 (UTC)

Mystery Dungeon 2

in Mystery Dungeon 2, is the eggs counted in steps or days?--Wowy 06:57, 6 November 2008 (UTC)

Ekans's pokedex entry

I think it was the first time a pokémon egg were quoted on games.

"Eats the eggs of birds, such as Pidgey and Spearow, whole.", "...searching for its favorite food--Pidgey and Spearow eggs."

Bad Eggs?

Why don't Bad Eggs get a link to their article, or at least a mention on this page? They seem to be a integral part of the history of Pokémon Eggs in the games. --Alex S. 23:29, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

What are 'bad eggs'? Bttsstewart 10:40, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

Egg as a separate species

As I'm sure many of you know, Egg and BAD Egg are separate species, 494 and 495 in DPPt respectively. Is this relevant enough to give them their own separate articles? I mean, most other glitch pokemon have their own articles. I calculated that both of their base stat total is 10 all around, giving them the o=lowest base stat total of 60, they are both normal types, they can only learn splash through level up and neither are compatible with any TM or HM. Additionally, in platinum, Egg's in game cry is identical to that of Shaymin Sky Forme. Both of their menu sprites appear as File:000MS.gif in both the party and PC. Skaisdead 16:33 June 22 2009

The egg is counted as a "separate species" as much as Wormadam Sandy Cloak and Trash Cloak are from Wormadam Plant Cloak, Giratina Origin Forme is from Giratina Altered Forme, Shaymin Sky Forme is from Shaymin Land Forme, and Heat, Wash, Fan, Frost, and Mow Rotom are from normal Rotom. It's just a case of game programming, much like how -- appears in some movesets listed: it's a case of programming things so that they work well together. TTEchidna 21:59, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
Maybe so, but do Giratina-O and Shaymin-S have their own individual nationaldex number? Wormadam and Shellos are better examples as they exist permanently in their separate forms, but even still, they are the same pokemon. Skaisdead 22:03, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
That's not their NDex number, that's their index number. 494's used in the same way that 253 was used in GSC: to tell the game "THIS IS AN EGG SO SHOW THE EGG STATUS SCREEN". As for whether the altformes have their own index numbers: yep. They do. TTEchidna 02:24, 23 June 2009 (UTC)

Pokémon Egg Shells?

I'm just wondering, as seen in the anime, when a Pokémon comes out of its egg, the "shell" of the egg itself disappears... Where does it go? Hmm...Palkia38 06:48, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

In cases as with May's Eevee, the egg itself becomes the new Pokémon. You could ask a similar point with evolution, i.e. "where does the old skin go?", but it's essentially the same thing.--Oz 10:10, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

Is odd egg shinyness predetermined?

is it decided when you start the game?

It's not. I tried to get a Magby from it, and after a bunch of normal Smoochums, Cleffas and an Igglybuff, I got a shiny Elekid. (Keeping it, too.) I don't know if the shininess is fixed when you receive the egg or when it hatches, though.
That would be determined when you get the egg. --Shiningpikablu252 18:20, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

HGSS Primo

There are eggs that can be obtained from Primo with the right code. So far Mareep, Wooper, and Slugma can be obtained. I woulld note it but i don't have HGSS, so idk if there's anything special about them Malake256 03:17, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

Possible new hatching mechanics?

Been playing SS for a while now, and just got back into breeding. Been breeding a Pikachu with a Ditto just to get a shiny Pichu (which requires 21 cycles to hatch), and as soon as I get the egg, it says "It appears to move occasionally. It may be close to hatching." Due to the information stated under mechanics, this message would appear when there's 5-9 cycles left. I'll look into it more for when it changes to "It's making sounds!" KurosakisTwin 20:02, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

After checking every 85 steps (goldenrod north gate straight down til you hit the water's edge by the day care), The egg changed status to "it's making sounds!" after 1630 steps, or a little more than 6 cycles. The egg hatched after 3410 steps, or about 13 cycles. My conclusion is that they changed the cycles from 255 (and 256 does not create a rounded number, either).
