Ash's Tsutarja (Japanese: サトシのツタージャ Satoshi's Tsutarja) is the fourth Pokémon that Ash caught in the Isshu region.

History

Tsutarja appeared in BW007 after stealing some food from Ash and his friends. Without thinking, Ash threw a Poké Ball and attempted to capture Tsutarja but she managed to evade capture. When she ran away, Ash pursued it, found her in a clearing and sent out Pikachu to battle. However, using Attract, Pikachu became infatuated. She followed up her attack with a series of Vine Whips, but Ash himself blocked the last two attacks for Pikachu, causing her to stop. Tsutarja then escaped. Tsutarja then encountered the Team Rocket trio, in which Jessie tried to capture her, but managed to successfully escape again. Tired, she took a rest between some rocks, and thought about how Ash selflessly defend his own Pokémon. When she woke up, Ash eventually caught up with her and sent Mijumaru to battle. Mijumaru eventually fell to her Attract, and Tsutarja escapes again. Pursuing her across a forest, then hindered by a muddy river, Ash finally found Tsutarja at a stream. Ash then sent out Pokabu to battle, but for a third time Tsutarja's opponent fell to her Attract. Finally, Mamepato was sent to battle Tsutarja. This time, however Tsutarja's Attract failed as Mamepato is also a female. After a long and tough battle, Tsutarja accepts that Ash is worthy enough to be her Trainer and lets him capture her.

In BW008, Tsutarja was used to carry Iris, Dent, Ash's Pikachu and the two Darumakka one floor up in the Clock Tower, when the ladder leading to it burnt away after the two Darumakka used Flamethrower.

Trivia

  • Tsutarja's capture was first revealed in a short preview aired after DP190, featuring all the Isshu starters.
  • The capture of Tsutarja marks the first time Ash has owned all three of the region's starters since his adventures in Johto.
  • Tsutarja's capture was Ash's last capture of the three Isshu starters. To contrast, in the previous four regions, each region's Grass-type starter was the first to be caught by Ash.
  • Tsutarja is Ash's fourth Pokémon species to have its gender confirmed before he obtained it. The first three were Tauros (male only), Buizel (the two spots on its back) and Gible (due to the notch in its fin). In the case of Tsutarja, its gender was confirmed when it used Attract on Pikachu, who is male. Out of all these Pokémon, Tsutarja is the only female and the only one that was not confirmed through gender differences.
