Cubone appears to be a small brown dinosaur-like Pokémon that constantly wears a skull (supposedly the skull of its mother) like a helmet, which masks its true face from view. It carries another bone, which it uses to attack with moves like Bone Club.
It may be the more modern counterpart of Cranidos, but this is uncertain.

Because of the original appearance of Cubone in RBY, it could be construed that Cubone have the ability of masking their appearance as ghosts. However, this could simply mean that these Cubone are already dead.

Cubone's name for English audiences was originally going to be "Orphon", which is a referce on how it's orphaned at birth.
Origin
Name origin
Cubone's name might be a combination of cute and bone, or possibly cub and bone. Karakara may be taken to mean からから, clattering. It is worth noting that karakara denotes lighter clattering than garagara.
