Multiscale (Japanese: マルチスケイル Multiscale) is an Ability introduced in Generation V. Only two Pokémon can have this Ability, both of them having the Flying type. This Ability is exclusively obtainable via the Dream World.

Effect

In battle

Multiscale lowers damage taken by half when at maximum HP.

Outside of battle

Multiscale has no effect outside of battle.

This ability may be inspired by the Dragonite owned by Lance in the Pokemon Adventures manga. This Dragonite was shown to have incredibly thick hide, able to withstand weaker attacks and even exposure to molten lava.
