In the trivia section, it says that Remoraid bears no relation to Octillery, evolving from a fish to an octopus. However, I'm not sure Remoraid is entirely based on a fish. Based on the shape of it's body, it appears to also be, at least partly, based on an octopus larva. This would explain why it evolves into an octopus. Origin
Here is an image of an octopus larva for comparison: Octopus Larva. Note how the shape of it's body is similar to Remoraid's.--Gioku 01:20, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
- Looks more like a crab or a turtle to me...Ataro 01:21, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
- I also forgot to mention that the octopus larva's eyes are in the same spots on it's head as Remoraid's.--Gioku 01:31, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
- Going by that picture, there is quite a resemblance (same body shape, minus the fins of course). XVuvuzela2010X 01:46, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
- Didn't the anime state (I think it was by Gary in Johto Photo Finish) that Remoraid and Octillery were nothing alike? They wouldn't make a point of highlighting that if Remoraid was based off a larva. Besides, the relationship between the two is gun->cannon, rather than anything else. - Blazios talk 12:52, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, this is true; but I think maybe Remoraid's body shape and eye placement could be alluding to the fact that it evolves into an octopus. It's obviously not the only thing it's based on, nor the most prominent, but I think it is there to make Remoraid slightly more related to Octillery. And, also, the anime isn't always the same as the games. Or, Gary (or whoever said it) might not have known about this, either!--Gioku 17:20, 10 August 2011 (UTC)

Relation to Magikarp and Feebas?
I really don't see a relation to the Useless Fishes. Yes, they all evolve into completely different animals, but I think the only biological relationship is between Magikarp and Feebas, with nothing to do with Remoraid. Magikarp and Feebas are fishes that turn into dragons. Both have such a drastic evolution because they are based off of stories. Remoraid just evolves based on the artillery theme.(O++O) Dralcax (talk) 18:17, 23 December 2012 (UTC)
