The episode opens with a montage consisting
of the footages of the important segments of
Ash's journey in the league so far. Afterwards,
the scene shifts to the stadium of the Lumiose
Conference, where Remo and Alain are having
a full battle, the winner of which will proceed
to the finals.
Alain's Charizard finishes off Remo's Rhyperior
with a vicious blow from a Dragon Claw. The
scoreboard reveals that, Alain has managed to
defeat all Pokemon of Remo sans Garchoo ,
his lead Pokemon, while only losing his
(Alain's) Metagross.
Sitting in the gallery Ash is mesmerized by
Alain's unparalleled strength. Clemont reveals
that, so far in the league he had have to use
only two Pokemon of his party- Charizard and
Metagross.
Back in the battlefield, Remo sends out the
trump card of his team- Garchoo the
Garchomp, quite determined to beat Alain's
Charizard. Alain too, vows to wield everything
in this battle, in order to advance to the finals.
Remo opens the fight with mega evolving
Garchoo. Mega Garchomp starts off by firing a
Draco Meteor, which Alain commands his
Charizard to dodge. Though Charizard is able
to evade the meteors quite briskly, yet a lone
meteor strikes it, dealing some damage.
Without any further ado, Alain too, Mega
Evolves his Charizard into Mega Charizard X.
Remo has his Mega Garchomp use Dragon
Rush, but Mega Charizard X counters it with
Dragon Claw. However, to Remo's
astonishment, Alain commands Mega
Charizard X to seize its opponent by its arm,
while both are mid-air, and hurl it towards the
ground. While Mega Garchomp is sent
crashing towards the ground, Mega Charizard
X hits it with a Flamethrower. Both trainers
then, in unison, command their respective
Pokemon to use Dragon Claw, but Mega
Charizard X is the one to land the blow first ,
and Mega Garchomp is knocked out, making
Alain the first finalist.
Ash is seen cheering up his entire team to
give their best in his upcoming battle against
Sawyer. Sawyer too, is no less excited to have
Ash, the person he idolizes, as his opponent.
Ash's friends are then spotted in the gallery,
discussing and speculating on the ensuing
battle of Ash and Sawyer. Clemont
acknowledges Sawyer as a potent threat to
Ash, since he has already defeated his
apparent mentor once. Tierno notes that, due
to closely investigating and scrutinizing Ash's
fighting style, Sawyer has a clear perception to
presume Ash's strategy.
The two enter the battlefield, and both vow to
give their absolute efforts into this decisive
battle, and the referee explains the rules, of
which, the most noteworthy is that, when half
the party of a trainer is knocked out, there will
be a change in the battlefield, and an interval
will be declared.
In the VIP seats, Professor Sycamore and
Champion Diantha are seen, eager to
witness an exciting and heated battle. Team
Rocket , on the other hand, is not too happy,
because as per the orders of Malva, they must
cover the entire match . Jessie finds making a
film on herself a more viable option, than
reporting her arch-enemy's deeds with every
minute detail, however.
Ash sends out Hawlucha against Sawyer's
Slaking. Hawlucha is wearing a strange outfit,
the unknown source of which confuses
Clemont , but Serena reveals that it was she
who designed its new apparels , as prior to the
battle, Hawlucha complained to her about its
old cape being tattered and ragged. She
believes that, the new outfit will reflect
Hawlucha's dignified and distinguished status
as the forest champion.
Ash makes the first move with a Karate Chop
from Hawlucha, which directly hits Slaking,
barely damaging it. Next, Ash tries a High
Jump Kick, followed by an X-Scissor ,
succeeded by a barrage of Karate Chops-
none of the attacks is able to break through
Slaking's impervious endurance.
Ash's friends and the others are completely
clueless about what is going on. But Clemont
correctly deciphers that, Hawlucha has so far
battled against retaliating opponents, but an
opponent like Slaking, which just endures its
blows, without countering them, must have
made Hawlucha confounded and exhausted.
Sawyer has his Slaking use Slack Off, restoring
its energy . Ash tries to repeatedly attack it,
commanding Hawlucha to use a High Jump
Kick and an X-Scissor in quick succession, but
Slaking is unperturbed and takes both hits
with ease.
Ash orders his Hawlucha to use Flying Press
on Slaking, but suddenly Sawyer becomes
proactive , and tells his Slaking to use
Counter. With a hard-hitting punch,
Hawlucha, which was swooping down to
execute the attack, is sent flying. Upon
impacting a tree-trunk, it falls down
unconscious,unable to battle.
Ash compliments Sawyer on his superb
strategy, and sends out Talonflame, against
Slaking. Talonflame uses Steel Wing, which
Sawyer tries to counter with Hammer Arm,
which it does, but abruptly, Talonflame
changes its track, and lands the blow on
Slaking's torso, and it falls on its back.
Sawyer again tries to replenish its HP with
Slack Off, but Ash is not caught off guard this
time, he orders Talonflame to use Flame
Charge, before Slaking was completely healed.
The attack severely damages Slaking, and a
follow up Brave Bird from Talonflame
ultimately overpowers it.

The title card segment focuses on Ash for this episode

Errors

  • When Charizard is hit by Garchomp's Draco Meteor, the scoreboard shows Remo's old design.
  • Once Alain defeated Remo, in the split second that it is shown, the scoreboard is missing his Metagross, only showing a Poké Ball in place of it, when it was shown on the scoreboard the last time it was shown.
  • When Chespin escapes from its Poké Ball, it is shown coming from Bonnie's side, when in fact it should have come from Clemont's.
  • When Ash sends out Hawlucha and the crowd stares at him, the Swablu's beak is yellow instead of white.
  • Before Pikachu uses Thunderbolt on Clawitzer, the scoreboard shows Ash's Talonflame and Hawlucha on the right-hand side of Ash's team, whereas they were shown on the left in a previous shot of the scoreboard and in the following shot when Sawyer's Aegislash is added.
  • Pikachu is seen using Electro Ball before Ash can command him to use the attack.
