For future reference, we prefer if you don't go back and sign a post after making it; it messes up the timestamps. Use the unsigned template and the time from the edit history. The unsigned template is used by entering {{unsigned|(name)|(timestamp)}} (which results in - unsigned comment from (name) (talk • contribs) (timestamp)). You can click on the "history" tab at the top of the page (will be next to "edit") to see the page's edit history, then just find the edit where you or someone else added the unsigned comment and copy the date and time from there. You're doing it correctly, but if possible, please remember to sign your comments properly the first time with ~~~~ so you don't have to go back and use the unsigned template afterward. Preferably, you should always be signing with ~~~~ before you hit "Save page". The unsigned template just exists as a backup for just in case you don't remember to sign.
