Mount Quena (Japanese: ピュアズロック Pures Rock) is an anime-exclusive location in Johto featured in Mewtwo Returns. In the English dub, it is described as Johto's highest mountain.

On the top of the mountain is a deep forest, at the center of which is Clarity Lake, the water of which possesses healing properties.

Purity Canyon, which surrounds Mount Quena, is known for its harsh weather. This weather, combined with Mount Quena's steep cliffs, makes the mountain virtually inaccessible by humans, thus keeping it undisturbed from its natural state. Because of its properties as well as it being a breeding ground, the Bug-type Pokémon view it as sacred, and will attack anyone who threatens its stability; Butterfree lay their eggs on top of Mount Quena.

History

In Mewtwo Returns

In Mewtwo Returns, Pokémon researchers Luna Carson and Cullen Calix individually came to the mountain to conduct research on the resident Pokémon in their habitat, and the lake itself, respectively. In the special, Mewtwo and the Pokémon clones were said to have come there after the events of Mewtwo Strikes Back.

Giovanni, along with Domino and the Team Rocket Combat Unit, came here to recapture Mewtwo. However, they were stopped by Mewtwo, after Ash and his friends freed it. Mewtwo then moved the lake to the inside of Mount Quena and wiped the memories of those that would cause the lake harm, including Team Rocket.

In Mewtwo Strikes Back—Evolution

In the post-credits scene of Mewtwo Strikes Back—Evolution, a remake of Mewtwo Strikes Back, Mewtwo and the clones are seen flying toward Mount Quena, foreshadowing the events of the special.
