May's Bulbasaur is distinctive from [[Ash's Bulbasaur]] in two ways. One, she has a gentler personality and a pair of heart-shaped spots on its forehead. She is fond of flowers, and once was almost carried away when she jumped into the back of a moving flower truck. Her second main distinction from Ash's is its knowing of the move {{m|Petal Dance}} when opposed to Ash's Bulbasaur's use of the technique {{m|Solarbeam}}.

May's Venusaur (Japanese: ハルカのフシギバナ Haruka's Fushigibana) was the fourth Pokémon caught by May during her travels through Hoenn. She was captured as a Bulbasaur along the way to Fortree City in a place known as the Forbidden Forest. She is voiced by 伊東みやこ Miyako Itō in the Japanese version and by Lindsey Warner in English.

Bulbasaur was captured in Grass Hysteria, although she had been featured in the series opening, Challenger!!, for a short while before that. May was kidnapped by a hungry Skarmory and ended up lost in a place called the Forbidden Forest, a preserve for Grass-type Pokémon. There, she met a clumsy Bulbasaur trying to pick flowers. Bulbasaur warmed up to May after she saved the little Grass-type from a fall. The other Grass-type Pokémon acted very hostile, though, and repeatedly tried to attack May. However, Bulbasaur explained to Venusaur, the ruler of the Forbidden Forest, that May was a friend. Before May had to leave, Bulbasaur decided to stay with her.

May's Bulbasaur is distinctive from Ash's Bulbasaur in two ways. One, she has a gentler personality and a pair of heart-shaped spots on her forehead. She is fond of flowers, and once was almost carried away when she jumped into the back of a moving flower truck. Her second main distinction from Ash's is her knowledge of the move Petal Dance as opposed to Ash's Bulbasaur's use of the technique Solarbeam.

Bulbasaur had become friends with Ash's Bulbasaur at Professor Oak's ranch, but since then May evolved her all the way to Venusaur.

Trivia

  • May capturing her Bulbasaur in a preserved location for Grass-type Pokémon may be a reference to Ash's Bulbasaur who was captured in the Hidden Village in Kanto.
