In 1998, an event was held in [[Corocoro]] Magazine among other Shogakukan-owned magazines, dubbed the "Tamamushi University Hyper Test". This event would have readers submit answers to questions to enter competition for various promotional items. Around 1,000 of these bundles would be distributed to readers who scored highly on their tests, while 20 "professors" would additionally receive a special [[List_of_Japanese_event_Pokémon_distributions_(Generation_I)#University_Magikarp|Dragon Rage Magikarp]]. Other items, including Encyclopedia Pokemonica, were given out alongside an [[Magikarp_(University_promo)|Unnumbered Promotional Magikarp card]], two personalised pencils, and a student ID card.
