The Griseous Orb (Japanese: はっきんだま Platinum Orb) is a type of held item introduced in Pokémon Platinum. It boosts the power of Dragon- and Ghost-type moves when held by Giratina, and prior to Pokémon Legends: Arceus, it would change Giratina into its Origin Forme while held.

Effect
In battle
This move effect may be in need of research. Reason: Does it check the Pokémon's species before or after using Transform (in each generation)? Can item negating/manipulating effects like Embargo or Trick affect it in Scarlet and Violet, as it no longer changes Giratina's form? You can discuss this on the talk page. |
If held by Giratina, it increases the power of its Dragon- and Ghost-type moves by 20%.
Unaffected by item negating effects (such as Embargo and Klutz). Item manipulating effects (such as Trick and Fling) cannot give Giratina a Griseous Orb or remove a Griseous Orb from Giratina.
Outside of battle
From Generation IV to VIII, the Griseous Orb allows Giratina to remain in its Origin Forme outside of the Distortion World. In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the Griseous Core must be held to transform Giratina into its Origin Forme instead.
In Pokémon Platinum and HeartGold and SoulSilver, only Giratina can hold a Griseous Orb, and Pokémon holding a Griseous Orb cannot be traded. From Generation V onward, these restrictions no longer apply.
