Trivia

  • This episode premiered in Japan between the episodes Aipom and Circumstance and Strategy Tomorrow - Comedy Tonight!.
  • Yuyama Kunihiko traveled to Italy to visit the ruins of Rome, the city of Naples and the island of Capri to get ideas for the setting of the movie.
  • The Korean dub of the movie premiered on July 20, 2006, only 5 days after the Japanese premiere.
  • The title card animation sequence begins with a depiction of the hexagonal crystal lattice of ice, however, the orientation of some water molecules is wrong: there should only be one hydrogen atom on every edge and one oxygen atom at every vertex.
  • An a capella version of Spurt! is played as the background music in the scenes where Jackie explained why he protects Pokémon and when Ash and May are swimming with Manaphy and Buizel.
  • This was the first Pokémon movie to be dubbed by Pokémon USA.
  • In the dub, when diamonds and pearls are mentioned for the first time in the movie, Meowth says "Those would be great names for games". When they get mentioned second time, he says "Let's get through this season." Obviously he is referencing the games Pokémon Diamond and Pearl and the next season.
  • Although the posters and DVD cover show Ash controlling some kind of ship, he never actually does this in the movie.
  • The clothes Jackie wears during his flashback resemble Gold's.
  • Jackie captures a Fearow with his styler, which is most likely a reference to Ringtown's Ranger Leader Spenser and his Fearow.
  • Near the climax of the movie, Ash turns his hat backwards for the first time in several seasons.
  • The following year's Detective Conan movie, Jolly Roger in the Deep Azure, features a lot of similarities with the premise of this movie, including the female co-star being less useful than anticipated.
  • The movie aired on Cartoon Network in the UK, along with Lucario and the Mystery of Mew, before Destiny Deoxys was released on DVD, which still has yet to happen.
  • Teaser scenes that were used in the movie trailer shown at the end of the Japanese version of Pokémon Ranger - Deoxys Crisis! ultimately did not make it into the movie; such as a scene where Ash is washed away while calling for Pikachu, a scene where May's and Lizabeth's bracelets glow, and a scene which shows an alternate version of the architecture of the Sea Temple, as well as a nighttime scene where Kyogre leaps out of the water and back in.
  • In a sneak peek of the movie on a Pokémon Sunday Segment, Ash made a reference to The Green Guardian. When he first meets Jack Walker in the preview, he says セレビィに負けないくらい森とポケモンを愛してる人だったな~.

Errors

  • When a bird's eye view of the young Jackie surrounded by Pokémon was shown, the long feathers on the Altaria's heads were white instead of the normal blue.
