A Black Belt (Blackbelt in Generation II; Japanese, Generation I and II: からておう Karate King, III onward: カラテおう Karate King—note the use of katakana) is a type of Pokémon Trainer that first debuted in the Generation I games. They are generally depicted as young men in headband and gi striking a fighting pose.

They specialize in Template:Type2 Pokémon.

Their female counterpart seems to be the Battle Girl or Crush Girl.

In the anime

A Black Belt appeared in Glory Blaze! during Hearthome City Tag Battle Competition. He had teamed up with a Psychic and his Metagross, using a Zangoose by himself. They battled against Ash and Paul, who were using Turtwig and Chimchar. As Chimchar was scared of Zangoose, it was unwilling to battle, but Paul was only thinking about the possiblility of getting Chichar's ability Blaze activated. When Chimchar defended Turtwig from Zangoose's attack, Paul turned his back to it. Ash then started commanding Chimchar, and with the help of his Turtwig, Zangoose was defeated.

Debut Glory Blaze!

During the Tag Battle, Black Belt used his Zangoose to attack Paul's Chimchar, who was so scared of it, that it was barely able to attack. However, Ash's Turtwig was finally able to defeat Zangoose with a Razor Leaf-Tackle combo.

Zangoose's known moves are X-Scissor, Crush Claw and Fire Blast.
