This book follows the plot of the anime episode Tracey Gets Bugged. Ash, Misty, and Tracey arrive at Murcott Island, which is famous for its bug Pokémon. Misty, predictably, wants to leave the island. A Pinsir appears, but does nothing. Venonat's radar and Marill's hearing then lead them to an angry, wounded Scyther. It refuses to be caught when Ash thows a Poké Ball in order to carry it to a Pokémon Center and heal it. It wants to battle!
Ash sends out Pikachu, but Tracey stops them from attacking. Tracey sends out Venonat and it uses Sleep Powder. Scyther falls asleep and Tracey catches it.
