Pokémon Game Tip Cards were distributed in packages of Black Diamond cheese products from late 1998 until early 1999. Each package of cheese contained one game tip card as well as a potential winning coupon for one of several Pokémon-related prizes. Non-winning coupons offered a $0.30 discount on the purchase of Black Diamond cheese.
The game tip cards featured early artwork by Ken Sugimori of various Generation I Pokémon. The game tips were generally unrelated to the depicted Pokémon, and were often vague "hints" such as "It may be that cute Pokémon are hard to catch!".
