Conway (Japanese: コウヘイ Kōhei) is a recurring character from the anime. His first appearance was in Tag! We're It! as Dawn's tag-team partner.

Characteristics and history
Conway was shown to be a very smart Trainer. His strategies played an important role in helping himself and Dawn to advance to the finals of the Hearthome City Tag Battle Competition.
Conway appears again in Camping It Up! through One Team, Two Team, Red Team, Blue Team! during a four-episode arc at a summer school. During this arc he demonstrates his knowledge about Pokémon as well as an attraction towards Dawn.
His most recent appearance is in episode An Old Family Blend!, where it is revealed he is also entering the Lily of the Valley Conference. In League Unleashed!, he passed the first round, then in Casting a Paul on Barry! he made it through the second and had his third round opponent revealed to be Ash. He battled Ash and lost in Working on a Right Move! after almost defeating him thanks to his strategies.
He made a cameo appearance during the credits of Zoroark: Master of Illusions.
Conway uses very effective strategies, but doesn't improvise much, something that has led to several losses for him. Examples include using Psychic to redirect an attack, using Protect while another Pokémon attacks, and so on.

|epname=Tag! We're It...!
|desc=Slowking is Conway's main Pokémon. When Dawn first meets Conway, Slowking is with him and Dawn thinks both are creepy, but Conway tells her that Slowking has taken a liking to her. On their first battle, Conway tells Dawn to not worry about defense, so her Dawn uses several moves and Slowking keeps on defending it with attacks like Safeguard. It is later seen again in the Pokémon Summer Academy where it showed off some impressive moves against Jessie's Yanmega.
Slowking's known moves are Safeguard, Protect, Psychic and Water Pulse.}}

|epname=Smells Like Team Spirit!
|desc=Heracross is first seen in Conway and Dawn's tag battle against Paul and Ash. Immediately Ash tells Chimchar to focus on attacking Heracross with Fire attacks. However Chimchar is countered by Dawn's Buizel many times. Paul also once commanded his Elekid to attack Heracross, without any result, however. Heracross was finally taken down by a direct hit from Chimchar's Flamethrower.
Heracross's known moves are Revenge, Feint and Megahorn.}}

|epname=Working on a Right Move!
|vajp=Ikue Ohtani
|desc=Conway sent out Shuckle first for his battle against Ash. Its offensive and defensive capabilities proved it to be a tough opponent, making Ash switch through his three Pokémon, Noctowl, Donphan and Gible. While its Gyro Ball was able to deal a lot of damage to the first two, Gible was able to stop the attack by biting Shuckle. It was eventually defeated with a Draco Meteor.
Shuckle's known moves are Withdraw, Power Trick, Sludge Bomb and Gyro Ball.}}

|desc=Lickilicky was sent out after Shuckle was defeated. It used Lick on Gible, confusing it. Ash had to send back Gible, after Lickilicky attacked it using Power Whip. He sent out Noctowl, which Lickilicky tried to attack with its tongue. It wasn't long enough, and Noctowl was able to dodge its Thunderbolt and defeat it with Extrasensory.
Lickilicky's known moves are Lick, Power Whip and Thunderbolt.}}

|epname=Working on a Right Move!
|desc=Dusknoir was the last of Conway's Pokémon to be sent out in Working on a Right Move!. It automatically used Trick Room and knocked out Noctowl with ThunderPunch. It was also able to defeat Donphan with a combination of Mean Look and Shadow Punch. However, Gible was able to pin down Dusknoir by biting its hand. It then used Draco Meteor and finished Dusknoir off with Dragon Pulse.
Dusknoir's known moves are Trick Room, ThunderPunch, Mean Look and Shadow Punch.}}

|desc=Venonat was first seen in Camping It Up! where it was temporarily used in the Pokémon Summer Academy. It was used in a battle against a Grimer that Dawn was temporarily using. After Grimer used Poison Gas as a Counter Shield, the battle ended in a draw.
Venonat's known moves are Psychic, Stun Spore and Supersonic.}}

Trivia
* He appears to be based on the Super Nerd Trainer class.
* Conway is the first rival that has never revealed any of his badges, either onscreen or off-screen.
* Every time he has appeared, Conway is featured in an arc of episodes; Hearthome City Tag Battle Competition Arc, Summer Academy Arc, and the Lily of the Valley Conference Arc.
* Every one of his Pokémon, other than Slowking and Aggron, has used an attack that had not previously been seen in the anime, Heracross, Shuckle, Lickilicky and Dusknoir used Revenge and Feint, Power Trick, Power Whip and Trick Room respectively.
** Coincidentally three of the moves have the words "Power" and/or "Trick" in them.
