One day, the children in her kindergarten class befriended a Trubbish; however, she didn't allow them to keep it due to her fearing that it would live up to its reputation and eat the children's toys. As a result, her students rebelled against her and kept Trubbish in their self-made secret base, not allowing anyone to approach it.
Even after Trubbish saved the kids from a Sandile that attacked them, she still wished to get rid of it until the secret base started to collapse (caused by her Deerling). She tried to save Avery, but Trubbish saved all the children. As a result, her attitude towards it softened, and she allowed Trubbish to stay.

Deerling is Daniela's only known Pokémon. She intended to use it to scare off the Trubbish that her students had befriended. However, Ash knew that Trubbish meant no harm and intended to protect it. As a result, he battled Deerling with Pikachu briefly. The battle ended when both Pokémon nearly made the secret base collapse.
Deerling's only known move is Tackle.
