A Sage (Japanese: 坊主,Bouzu, or 法師, hōshi, Buddhist priest) is a type of Pokémon trainer that first debuted in the Generation II games. They appear to be Buddhist monks who are mostly only found in Johto's Sprout Tower, and some in Tin Tower.

They generally use Bellsprout and Hoothoot. The ones in Ecruteak's gym use Gastly and Haunter
