The Starter Deck (Japanese: 第1弾スターターパック Series 1 Starter Pack) is a Japanese-exclusive introductory deck that was released alongside the first Expansion Pack of the Pokémon Trading Card Game.
Information
This deck is unusual as it contains a random assortment of cards, whereas regular decks contain the same pre-selected cards. This trend has been used in Japan with every first expansion in a new Generation and during transitional eras. Exceptions to this include Generation III, where it was implemented in part via half decks alongside Flight of Legends; and Generation V, where it was not implemented at all.
This deck is similar to English releases such as the 2 Player Starter Set and 2 Player CD-Rom Starter Set, designed to introduce players to the TCG.
Like others, the Starter Deck also includes a rulebook, damage counters, a custom coin, and card list.
Trivia
Unlike the majority of cards found in decks in Japan, these cards have rarity symbols.
