Ok. The list of pokemon that can be taught Mimic via Tutor in FRLG is EXTREMELY long. Who CAN'T learn it? Me and my fellow torchics agree on this - Sk8torchic 20:03, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
- Caterpie, Metapod, Weedle, Kakuna, Ditto, Unown, Wobbuffet, Smeargle, Wurmple, Silcoon, Cascoon, Wynaut, Beldum. They can't learn it. Cipher (Talk) 20:14, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
- You missed Magikarp. Other than that, though, nice list of the usual suspects...--Shiningpikablu252 21:40, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
Sketch
if one mimiced sketch, what would happen? would the move last after the battle? - Decresc
- No.Mimic is the "first move" so when it mimics Sketch it loses it after battle.--DCM((TalkContributions))
- Actually, it is possible for Sketch to beat Mimic. Last I checked, both Mimic and Sketch were on the same speed priority. If Sketch is used on a target that hasn't yet moved, it will fail since there's no previous move for Sketch to copy. If one with Mimic moves after one with Sketch, Sketch can be Mimiced. Last I checked, the signature Sketcher is faster than the signature Mimicer (although the signature Mimicer's counterpart from Generation IV onward outspeeds the signature Sketcher).
- On the same token, if Mimic is the first move used, it will fail and can then be successfully Sketched. --Shiningpikablu252 01:59, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
- A possible way to learn Sketch permanently: If one used Mimic during the first round against a Smeargle which only knew Sketch, and the trainer with Smeargle used an item that round, the Mimic-user would mimic Sketch. The next round, the Smeargle could use Sketch, with the Mimic-user's trainer using an item. The third round, the Mimic-user could use the Mimiced Sketch to copy a genuine Sketch permanently. I think I'll be trying that with my Crystal sometime soon.
well theoreticly, isn't it possible to get an elecvire with volt talkle and swordsdance?
- theoretically, any pokemon that could have mimic could get any moveset (as long as it's not by breeding and you can get it again via move tutor/relearner/tm) Above strategy, but Sketch would have to go first and fail before mimic would work on it. Me and my fellow torchics agree on this - Sk8torchic 21:09, 20 February 2009 (UTC)
In manga
Eevee used a TM Mimic in Electric Pikachu Adventure. V2 chapter 2 - unsigned comment from JP585 (talk • contribs)

Koffing & Weezing
The first topic is kind of about the same, but it's 2 years old so let's have a new one.
In the tutor list Koffing and Weezing are missing and they should be there, as said here, here and on veekun too. This also applies for swagger and endure (maybe entries were adapted from double-Edge ones, that Koffing and Weezing cannot learn?).
Getting back to the first topic, the list is far too long, on PCentral Wiki we solved this way, basically adapting the AllTM text to fit with every learning method.
As you should have got, I'm a PCW user and English is not my native language, so forgive me any error, please!--Maze (Talk page) 22:52, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
Mimic and False Swipe
I had this strange experience this morning: I was battling a wild Jigglypuff with my (hacked) Froslass on my White Version. Froslass used False Swipe on Jigglypuff, which, of course, it survived. Jigglypuff then used Mimic, which became False Swipe naturally. But then, completely nothing happened, not even an 'It had no effect'-message! It just went from 'The wild Jigglypuff used False Swipe' to 'What will Froslass do?' with nothing in between. No messages, no HP-depletion, nothing. So, this gives me the following questions: is this a glitch? If yes, is this notable? If yes, where should we put it? TyraniThrone 12:12, 8 January 2012 (UTC)
- Mimic uses a turn to "borrow" a move from an opponent for the duration of a battle. It copies the move, but does not use it like Me First or Mirror Move does. On the turn that the Jigglypuff used Mimic, it should have copied False Swipe, and then it should have been your turn, just like you said. --Darth Zekrom 17:58, 11 January 2012 (UTC)
Confusing statement
This applies to the Generation I section only. The section states, if the opponent last used a move that the attacking Pokémon already knows, Mimic will fail. However, the top of the section says only that Mimic copies one of the target's moves in general, and not just the last one it used. Which is correct as of Gen I? Does Mimic copy a random move or the last-used move? Thanks yeyjordan 03:30, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
- Edit: Don't mind this, I was just unexpectedly able to verify for myself. yeyjordan 03:44, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
Gen V (and VI) and Chatter
It's a bit ambiguous as to whether or not it can copy Chatter in Generations V and VI. --Wynd Fox 01:14, 10 November 2013 (UTC)
