Expeditions appear in Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, and are similar to the "jobs" from previous games. There are many types of expeditions that the player can do and doing these expeditions will connect the player with the client of the mission.

The types of expeditions include the following.

  • Rescue: This is the normal expedition of rescuing another Pokémon. Sometimes the player must escort one Pokémon to another.
  • Finders Keepers: These expeditions are to find an item that a fellow Pokémon lost. Sometimes, this expedition will say "With Pokémon" (for example: Finders Keepers: With Auroras), which means the player has to escort the Pokémon to their lost item.
  • Secret Bases: Sometimes the player will get a request from a Pokémon to come visit them in their "Secret Base". When the player gets to the room in a dungeon with a secret base, two different things can happen. The Pokémon will take the player to the center of the room and either talk with the player normally and connect with them or they will leave laughing and a Monster House will appear. When a Monster House appears, the player must make it to the stairs in order to complete the expedition.
  • Battles: There are two different types of Battle expeditions. A Pokémon (and in most cases their friends as well) will request to battle the player in a dungeon and they must defeat them (or when there is more than one, only the leader has to be defeated) to complete the expedition. The other type of battle is when a Pokémon requests for the player to "teach another Pokémon a lesson", which means that the player must defeat a Pokémon for them to complete the expedition. Sometimes a mission that says "Help me defeat" will occur, which means the player must travel through the dungeon with them and team up with them to defeat their enemy.
  • Delivery: In this expedition, a Pokémon will request the player to deliver an item to their friend in a dungeon. Usually, the item they want delivered can be found on the floor that the Pokémon is waiting on, so the player doesn't have to bring an item of their own.
  • Locked Door: These missions require the player to escort a Pokémon to the near end of a dungeon and unlock a locked door. Once the door is unlocked, the player must go up (or down) the stairs behind the door. These special stairs will make the player leave the dungeon and unlock a new, undiscovered dungeon.
  • In Dungeon Activities: Sometimes in dungeons, the player will receive an extra expedition that they won't know about until they get to the specific floor that the Pokémon is on. These expeditions include:
    • Reviving a fainted Pokémon: go up to a fainted Pokémon and give them an apple to revive them and connect with them.
    • Traveling Pokémon: find a Pokémon exploring the dungeon and talk with them to compare notes and connect. They will fully restore the HP, PP, and Belly of you and your teammates.
    • Rogue Pokémon: these Pokémon will try and attack you when you enter. Once you attack them for the first time, they will try to run away and you must defeat them before they make it to the stairs. They move VERY fast so if you have the option, use a confuse wand to stop them from moving towards the stairs.
